The first thing I think of when I see this word to "Fellowship" is compassion. Also, a person who wishes fellowship with and on others is Understanding. Another strong point that a person who wishes to fellowship is that they have to learn to refrain from giving constant input and learn to just be a good listener rather than an active instructor and informer.
One more thing that one who wishes to fellowship is that they have to be able to reflect and practice God's Word and Commands. It does little good when we see people who attempt to preach and refuse to adhere to what they portend to know about the Word of God.
I had a relative who used to work in a Youth Ministry for his local Church. He had been with them for many years when he made the grave mistake to attempt to tell his students that he in fact was not married but was living in bliss with his companion. But when one of the children addressed this information via their parents the Pastor was left with no other alternative but to relieve this instructor of his duties. Reason being that this person was not living in the "Good Faith" that he pretend to dwell in .
1 Peter 2:17: honor men of all sorts, have love for the whole association of brothers, be in fear of God, have honor for the king.
Fellowship would have to be linked with association. Definitely sharing good association from those of the same faith. Looking for the good in your spiritual brothers and sisters. Being encouraged when with them.
All through life we have these little societies, of co-workers, of fellow church-goers, students in a class, members of a club. When I hear the word "fellowship" I generally think of the activities of church-goers, the pot luck suppers and meetings.
