Is it much easier to get promoted in the Army than in the Marine Corps?

Like if you're in captivity and you get freed under questionable circumstances?

A friend of a Facebook friend shared the following status from a Marine vet:

"If Bergdahl was a Marine, then

a) he'd be a Lance Corporal and the Marine brass would be in no hurry at all to promote him to Corporal

b) actually, he would've escaped or died trying,

c) actually, this whole thing wouldn't have happened in the first place."

Yes. A-C are all equally true. Promotion is much slower in the Marine Corps than the Army under normal circumstances. In the Army, promotion is pretty much guaranteed if you don't mess up. You can make E-5 just by time in service. Not in the Marine Corps. You won't be promoted to Corporal unless you earn it, never mind Sgt. This is why Marine NCOs are the real deal.

While in POW status, promotions are more or less automatic.
