A former co-worker is having her formal wedding + reception in her home town, which is 3000 miles from where she (and I) live now.
Two weeks after the wedding/reception, she's hosting a lunch for all the friends and others in this state who didn't attend the wedding.
I'm supposed to bring a gift, right?

You wouldn't be required to sen a gift even if you attended the wedding... so a post-wedding luncheon is nice, but it should not be mistaken for a wedding shower. Invitations to a wedding shower are only issued properly to those who are also invited to the wedding itself.
You could give a gift, but just recognize that you are doing so to be nice, not because it is required by etiquette. It is not. I'm actually on the fence as to whether this luncheon seems like a nice idea, or like a gift grab.
If you were invited to the wedding, and you care enough to go to this luncheon, then, yes, a gift would be appropriate. (And it would be better to send it rather than bring it.)
