Which comes first when making a pie?

I'm making a pie from scratch, the crust and everything, so I was wondering if the crust will burn if I bake it first, then put the filling in it and bake it again. Or do I have to bake everything at the same time. Thanks!

What you do depends on the kind of filling. If it's a filling that gets baked, as in a fruit pie, then you bake both together. If it's a filling that does not get baked but is assembled cold, or made on the stovetop like a pudding type filling, then you bake the crust first and put the filling in when the filling and crust have cooled off.
It doesn't sound like you have looked up a recipe for the type of pie you are making. it's always best to do that, to find out the way that kind is made.

if making a fruit pie you typically do the cooked fruit/cooked juice method put it in MEALY pie dough crust so it doesn't get soggy and bake both with a HIGH bottom heat.

if making unbaked pies then you bake the pie crust first, then add in the filling and let it set.

fruit pies typically take at LEAST 1 hour to cook.

1. read the recipe completely through. Twice if you have never made it before.
2. Make sure you have all the ingredients needed.
3. Make sure you have the proper pan to make the recipe(pie in this case)
4.Follow the recipe step by step. The recipe will tell you in what order to prepare things.
