Flowers as a gift to a person, and cake to a lesser extent, do not carry the same romantic meanings to non-Westernized Thai. If your girl is 100% Thai, she is likely to think gift flowers are a waste of money, cash which could come to her instead. Taste for Western sweets are also foreign, but many Thai have been seduced by the God Sugar.

If your girl is so Westernized as to be overjoyed by romantic flowers, you simply do not have a Thai girlfriend. Ironically, flowers are a definite favorite to place on spirit houses and Buddhist holy places as well as in a garland or pendant for the rear view mirror, all with a non-romantic flavor.
