Why Adobe Reader crashes and turns to an extra long window popup and both viewers turn white?

Adobe reader crashed, but not normally. The main viewer turned white and a second smaller viewer that's really thin and so long that it has no ending horizontally pops up. They can't be closed by clicking the red x and must be force shut down from the Task Manager. In addition, several (like 6) Adobe rcrdf tasks are running like crazy in the background. I tried downloading a pdf earlier that when Adobe tried to automatically open it, says it is not in the right format and is unopenable. Could it be a virus that steals information?

It crashed after about 40 minutes into reading a document. Why does a secondary window pop up? I've never had it extend indefinitely beyond the screen. I could still move it around though.
