Nothing. He's old enough to make his own mind up. He might want to chat to some pilots, if they're willing.

He should get a basic health testing, including eyesight. If he needs correction, like lasik, he might need to consider that. If he has problems that will not let him qualify, then wishing will be hopeless.

There is no "test" required to qualify for a flight lesson. All you need is the cash to pay for it.

it's not necessarily needed to obtain a college degree to become a pilot, though it's recommended. you just need a pilots license from the FAA, and so many hours in an aircraft before hand while training.

there is United's page on what's required to become a pilot. but that is for passenger planes. other types may have different requirements. look up flight schools in your location and see if you can make an appointment with an instructor.
