I just graduated with marketing degree from university and we had the case study involving coke zero and diet coke. Coke Zero, different product, targeted toward different niche than diet coke. Also, coke zero contains pnenylalanine.
Source(s): Check out their websites: Diet coke is at www.dietcoke.com Coke Zero is at www.cokezero.com - the website is all about "chill" people. The website is cool and awesome, check it out. - PsychProfLv 62 decades ago
Traditional Diet Coke is "sweetened" using aspartame (Nurtrasweet). There is a version out that uses sucralose (Splenda).
Coke Zero is listed as the sugar free version of Coke Classic and is "sweetened" using a mixture of aspartame (Neutrasweet) and Acesulfame potassium (Ace K).
I do think that they taste different from one another. Some folks say that Coke Zero tastes more like regular Coke. I don't think so!

They use different artificial sweetners. Coke Zero tases a lot more like real coke. The best one out there is Diet Coke with Splenda. It tastes a lot like Coke and has that great "bite" that Coke has.

It is my opinion the only difference is the wording. Some people don't drink *diet* sodas. My daughter is one. She will however drink Coke Zero. It's probably just marketing.

Coke Zero tastes more like Coca-Cola, whereas Diet Coke has its own unique taste. Neither one has any calories.

Different names. Possibly a different artificial sweetener used...but for the most part it's just trying out a new name for marketing purposes.
