I love an Australian Shiraz in my lounge room after a long day at work.

I'd have to say Aussie Grenache, and I'd have it in my study. Granache is a badly underrated grape in my opinion, and the Australians seem to be doing fairly well giving it its due. Basically I am a big fan of all three of the Chateauneauf de Pape grapes... Grenache, Syrah, and Mouvedre. These also are known collectively as a GSM blend. The California Rhone Rangers and Australians both do a pretty good job of making these, but for the original, try a good Chateauneauf de Pape from the Rhone region of France. Sorry to ramble... I love the topic.

  • My favorite is Petite Syrah is a beautiful glass with my sweetheart. And yes, glassware does make a difference in the overall experience.

If you are looking to try some new wines, try a Mouvedre, a Rioja, or a Shiraz. All three have very jammy, full fruit, long finish, profiles. They are all easy on the pallet and the wallet. Don't be shy...they are just grapes. :)

I really like Verdicchio dei Castelli Mascato D'Asti its an Italian sweet white thats a little bubbly. I drink it in a fluted glass because it is a bubbly wine and I enjoy it most while in a hot bubble bath. :)
