Like any animal that rely on mobility by standing up and walking, mentain their equilibrium (balance) by the BRAIN's instinctive ability to adjust the body's position by slightly, or intensely shifting the middle torso to counteract changes that could result into falling. The inner ear has a high degree of abilities aiding the brain to control equilibrium. That is why when you suffer from a terrible cold and your ears and nasal passages are stuffed up with excess fluid, you will have a hard time standing, because the inner ear is given pressure that prevents it from functioning properly, some may experience dizziness under such conditions and may be off balanced easily. The cat's tail is misconceived by most, thinking that it acts as a counter balance, but the tail does not have enough mass or wieght to balance the whole body. it only follow as the middle torso is shifted, and may only contribute a little, if so. Changing the torso center of gravity by the brain and inner ear helps any animal mentain their balance. There are cats that are bobtails (manx), and some short tailed, and they can balance just as good as the long tailed cats.

Why wouldnt your first thought be "hmm...maybe this poor animal needs a veterinarian"? When you get hurt you go to the doctor right? Same applies here. EDIT- Cats are VERY good at hiding pain. Also, you said that she's being more loving which isnt so normal - this means that something is wrong. I'm not sure why you're not seeing that or getting her to the veterinarian? EDIT 2- Failing to take an animal to receive treatment while it has an injury is considered neglect, sorry to break it to you. What happens if all of the other animals gets sick? You're parents won't take them to the vet either? Honestly, if your parents cannot afford to care for these animals if they get sick then they should not have any of them. Letting an animal suffer is cruel.

The tail acts as a counterweight when running/turning/jumping at higher speeds, cats inner ear also give it a sensation to turn, flip etc in mid-air to land on its feet..
