Muscle soreness after exercise Tylenol or Advil? Or something else.?

This is the generalized muscle soreness/achiness that you feel after a good workout? Is one better than the other?

    CHOCOLATE MILK ! Advil and tylenol may both help ease the pain, but only advil addresses the underlying inflamation. Both soma and flexeril attack the inflamation and help muscles "let go", but seem a bit heavy handed for regular exercise. Perhaps adjusting your approach to exercise by adding a more gradual warm-up phase, moderating intensity, taking time to stretch afterwards, icing a sore area and/or adding an emphasis on post work out recovery food and drink would help. My favorite recent find is that low fat chocolate milk actually contains an almost perfect blend of protien, calcium and carbs to help sooth recovery and tastes much better than the pre-packaged stuff sold at gyms and bike stores. If you drink it within 20-30 minutes post exercise, it will be absorbed in time to head off the inflamation that otherwise can continue to grow for hours after you have stopped. The key is to make sure that you have adequate fluids and nutrition so your body starts to recover as soon as possible.

    The best thing to do is stretch and warm up before you work out to prevent muscle soreness.

    But, if you're already sore:

    Advil (or any ibprofen) works better for me. Just make sure to take it after you've eaten. Also, hot baths or a heating pad and good stretching really help ease muscle aches. I've heard that arneca gel is a good holistic treatment as well, but I haven't tried it.

    Advil is ibuprofen. The latter is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and as such it has more G.I. side effects that Tylenol which is acetaminophen. Ibuprofen is better for muscle and joint pain. However acetaminophen causes liver toxicity even at low doses in the presence of alcohol so be careful. Also remember to stretch before and after exercise which helps with the soreness.

    I'd try not to put anything into my body that was unnecessary unless you're in a lot of pain.

    Tylenol works neurologically to deaden the pain.

    Advil is an anti-inflamatory and will therefore have more of a direct effect on your muscles. I've also found it to work better.

    advil or tylenol is good for that . probably advil more so. alieve is for joint. a good hot soak in the tub is great for muscle soreness
