If a question does not get an answer, it is deleted after a week (unless the user extends the expiration date). However, if there is one answer, the question will stay on the system until it gets a second answer since it needs the second answer to go to a vote.

In these cases, the question will go to a vote almost immediately after you post your answer, so they really are worth answering. These Q&A's will be archived in Yahoo! Answers, though, so it only makes sense to post an answer and resolve the question if (1) you add a good answer to the question or (2) the previous answer is good and just needs to be resolved.

I think it is worthwhile. I've often done searches for information I wanted to find out using Yahoo! Answers. Even those answered late often had helpful information. Anything to improve the Y!A database, I find to be a worthy cause.

To Gevera Bert: Want to know what's really sad? When someone asks a question, I go through the trouble of drafting a thorough, helpful answer, and when I hit the submit button, I get a message that the question has been deleted.

That's happened to me twice in the past month with new questions since I've been on this site. In fact, one was from a girl who was asking for help on a homework assignment business problem that required me to create a graph to solve part of the problem.

Very, very rude. And inconsiderate. I was sooooo angry!

Old questions without answers are deleted, and the asker has the chance to post the question again.

The dead weight is caused by old "one answer only" questions, because those don't disappear. If the asker forgets them or does not like the only answer, they stay open indefinitely, until a second answer is provided and they can go to a vote.

So if you have an area of expertise, it _is_ worth it to review the old open questions in that category (you can find them using the Advanced Search) and see if you can provide good answers (or, in case there is one _good_ answer, just provide a non-answer to ensure voting -the Y!Answers team is ok with this-).

I see I posted almost simultaneously with Jane Furrows. I completely agree with her post.

If it's a subject that really interests me and the person asking seems sincere, I answer it. Even if the question later gets deleted, the person should have gotten an email with my response. I've had a few questions deleted on me for lack of response which made me kinda sad, because I really did want that info.

the nearest i have ever gotten grow to be even as i grow to be in ordinary and strolling residing house, I made the blunders of petting a domestic dog beside the line and it observed me residing house. mom and pa kept it until eventually we got here around the owner, which grow to be the subsequent day. i have by no skill extra a canines or animal residing house, planning to shop it even after my mothers and fathers have suggested no regardless of the undeniable fact that. If I did that, they'd likely have despatched me besides camp or something like that, and definitely eliminate the animal. no longer confident what i'd do if my little ones (if I have any) settle on to tug something like that. they're no longer going to be rewarded for it, i will allow you to recognize that a lot.

I think they should be checked of whether people will take interest while answering.other way is that they should be deleted after a certain period of time if it doesnt get a single answer.say for 1 day.

I don't know if they get deleted but I think they do after 6 days and nobody has answered them. I wou;dn't waste my time going through them b/c I'm really busy but I think if the questions are acctually important then you should try to answer them but if it's another "What's my name" then don't bother.

I really don't know. I know that I watch my questions pretty close, and if I don't get any answers within the first day, I delete them myself.

I really wish others would do the same.
