What is the origin of the phrase "talking up a blue streak?"?

example, I was unable to get a word in as she was talking up a blue streak.

    It could mean talking so fast that friction causes fire, like a fast peel out in a sports scar. Really hot fire is blue. It could also mean that you are expelling a lot of gas because you are talking so much, and if you've ever seen a gas stove, the fire, when turned down, is blue.
