Fast lane and slow lane?
Does driver's ed no longer teach that the left lane is the fast lane and the right lane is the slow lane? It seems that several people have forgotten this or are they deliberately ignoring it?
meesterkimichi - i am doing plenty with my life thanks. i am married to a wonderful woman, have a wonderful family i get to spend time with, and have completed training in family medicine/sports medicine and am a practicing physician - thanks for asking.
tjdmrp - i whole heartedly agree, common sense is in very short supply
- apparantly i need to be more specific when i make my descriptions. yes, the right lane is the traffic lane the left lane is the passing lane. i was using the more common
"slang" terms for the lanes i guess.
pearo - yep, i like to make time to discuss things with others... it seems fun. plus, my wife is at work.

I use to drive like 120 miles a day for over 2 years - I have to agree that there are lots of stupid drivers who keep on passing on the right and drivers that drive 70 in the right most lane and keep slamming on the breakes when cars are entering from an on ramp.

Well, Mary, you are correct. But only in certain areas is the left lane designated for 'passing only'. Here in Houston, Texas, our left lane is generically used for people travelling over the speed limit, but when you get to a rural location (and most two-lane freeways) the left lane is designated for passing to alleviate traffic congestion.

Thats right the left lane is to pass people who are going slow. If you are in the right lane most people are going the speed limit. They wouldnt teach what your saying cause it would be wrong. There is no fast or slow lane.

Wrong - the left lane is the PASSING lane. Regardless of your speed, it should be only used to pass other cars.
(And I don't think they teach that properly in drivers ed, either.)

I think it is deliberate. And those of us that follow traffic laws know that passing on the right is not legal so we are just out of luck. It seems that doing the right thing is always punished doesn't it?

Either they ignore it, or cases of dyslexia have increased. I share in your frustration as I am an avid left lane driver, and a speed demon.

Most people don't take driver's ed anymore. And i've found that one sex, (and i'm not going to say which one), has no idea what road courtesy is. Sorry, but it's the truth.

I drive through Boston almost every day. There's no such thing as a slow lane there.
