Lyrica is a "chemical cousin" to Neurontin (gabapentin) which was originally developed for seizures. Nowadays, Neurontin and Lyrica are primarily used for a condition known as neuropathic pain - the description of your pain is textbook neuropathic pain. Both have minimal side effects, but you might experience some sedation. Lyrica may be more effective than Neurontin, but this has not been proven in good clinical trials. I suggest you ask you doctor if you can try neurontin first (if you have not already tried Neurontin). The reason being, neurontin has been around for many years, so we generally know it's side effect profile. I am always hesitant to prescribe a medication that is new to the market - we really do not know a whole lot about it. Doctors are constantly bombarded with sales reps who give us pens, food, gadgets, etc., that can sway some physicians to prescribe these new meds. I am not saying your doctor has prescribed you Lyrica because of sales rep pressure, but ask him or her if it is KNOWN to be better than neurontin. If they say yes, go to another doctor because they are wrong. Also, if you do not have health insurance, neurontin is likely significantly cheaper than Lyrica. Hope this helps.

I have FMS and was prescribed Lyrica last year. Before Lyrica I would wake up around 3 am every morning and have to take ibuprofen, the pain would be so bad. (I also take Ultram, but not at night, it keeps me awake) The Lyrica was like a wonder drug, I didn't have to get up at night to take something for pain and didn't have pain first thing in the am. I slept great, the first time in years. I couldn't take it during the day because it made me sleepy and groggy, just at night before bedtime. After about 3 months, it just stopped working, increasing the dosage some didn't make any difference. Unfortunately, I gained almost 15 lbs. during that time.

this is personal since you have no contact profile--you seem to beleive the same bible truths as i do. wonder if you've heard of pastor murray? would like to know where you study. we had passover 1st weekend in april.
no nothing about your med lyrica. try www.lifematters.com--sounds like a back injury i had once effecting the sciatica nerve. i just had pain meds with some controlled drug in it.
see if you can find back excercises on web. the ones i used were 1.(in bed or floor) raise knees up. arms straight out raise up just enough to touch knees 10 times. 2. (flat in bed or floor)pull 1 knee at a time into chest 10 times. repeat other leg. then pull both knees at once into chest. if you can, raise head up to touch knees. do nothing that causes pain. a heating pad on lower back might loosen those muscles.

I took this medication at the beginning of the year after shoulder reconstruction surgery. My orthopaedic surgeon prescribed it due to complications. I couldn't wait to get off of it. I gained 30 pounds on it and ate like a PIG! I had worked so hard to lose weight before my surgery and was at my highest weight ever. I asked him to please take me off of it. That was my major complaint. (Increased appetite & weight gain was a side effect) I have 4 more pounds to go before I'm back at my presurgery weight. As the previous poster suggested, I would investigate it before taking it.

go to www.lyrica.com
It's relatively new to the market, helps with seizures as well as nerve pain....If you have more questions, talk to your pharmacist, or doctor.
