Are Christians still turning the world upside down?
When the early christians were walking the Earth, it was said about them "these are the ones who turned the world upside down". I wonder if Christians have the same reputation today? What do you think when you look around you?

When I look around in America I see Christians who are either beaten and defeated or comfortable and complacent. They have just enough of God to be uncomfortable, but not enough to walk in the power and authority that is give to them as adopted sons and daughters of God. In America Christians have the reputation of being politically backwards buffoons who trip over their own tongues and just get in the way of "progress" from time to time. However, in all to of other countries its a different story. You won't hear the stories of these Christians on the evening news, in fact you usually don't find it at all if you don't look for it. Stories of Christians in India, Bangladesh, Columbia, Korea, Egypt, Iraq, all over the place, living a life of danger, death, pain, torture, and loss for the cause of that which they have found a love most. Jesus Christ. To them it is no longer about denominations or belief, its about Jesus, who He is and how to know more about Him. As a result they are tortured, beaten, raped, robbed, and slaughtered by other religions (or, as is the case in China, lack of religions) and even their own governments without so much as raising a weapon in their own defense. The end result is inexplicable and amazing change that actually frightens the ones who do not believe, not because the Christians are violent, but because they have Jesus, and what they have is what others want, and this desire transcends everything and anything that these people in power can offer, and therefore it threatens their power. These are the ones who are willing to lose their life to keep it, to turn the other cheek, even to the point of death. THESE are the ones who turned and are still turning the world upside down, not through violence or politics, but through a genuine, unadulterated revelation of Jesus Christ and a passion to share that ongoing revelation with those who need it most, the very ones who hate, despise, ridicule and persecute them and the one they serve.

Interesting question. I don't know that Christianity ever turned the world upside down or impacted it they way religious people would like to have us believe. A lot of negative events and situations arose from the Christianizing of the civilized world.
While it is true that Islam has gained more ground and more adherents in 600 years less time than Christianity did, it has to be remembered that these are both religions often spread by force, thus membership is far from always voluntary. Therefore a statement such as that might not always be complimentary.

Early Christians (Nassara) who followed the correct Bible brought to people by Jesus from His God, were the preachers of new life. Those are the ones who turned the world upside down with their good preaching and conveyed the message of their teacher Jesus the Messiah.
Afterwards, the bible have been altered according to each ruler's will and benefit, then became many versions of the same bible but with different contradicted texts.
Christians nowaday are really lost because they can not beleive the contradictions in their holy book. Each church is offering the religion with a different method. I think they should go back to the Original Bible, that calls to worship the only God and no one else.

I don't think so. Christians seem to be on the run or quiet today, and if anyone is turning the world upside down (not in a good way) I'd look over to the Middle East for that religion.

Individually it varies but as a body together no other power on earth is close. The Gospel goes forth and none can stop it. Major things are happening all over the world in response or opposition. It is not that individual Christians are of any power but even through the weaknesses and failures of the members of the church the church moves on triumphantly. This is because the Head of the church has been seated with all power and authority and now reigns and governs all things.

Well it just seems that it is more quiet nowadays but look at the media in in most countries (especially US and Europe!) they only report the bad things that is happening that faintly somehow is being connected with Christians. They almost never report what really is going on in the world. Like how many millions of people are actually accepting Christ in countries like China and Africa! How many Christians are persecuted and and give their lives for their believes around the world. The mainstream media would never report on this because of their biased and anti-Christian attitude. When did you hear in your news (even local) about how the Christian churches in your cities helped people or the community, which happens every day and all around you...!?

There are so few good strong Christians today. Almost none really. We've allowed money hungry, television faces to ruin our public image. We've allowed the Catholics to go unchecked with the "gay priesthood / molesters etc. for far too long. We've allowed organized religion to perform like businesses and not like Houses of God.
I really don't care about turning the world any direction. I care about my faith in Christ, about living my life in a way that lives up to His very high standards, and I believe in loving my family and friends. When I look around, I don't see Christians...I see Anti-Christians...more and more everyday.

It's very challenging....one of the things we think about in my church is, if you were arrested for being a Christian, what evidence would there be? Christians are called upon to be different to the people around them, but too many don't reflect Jesus. Our society today is not a lot different from the one of Jesus day ie corruption, divorce, prositution, homosexuality, etc etc and the early disciples really stood out when they acted different. I think the time is coming when we will stand out again. Bad will get worse and good will get better.

As long as there is stuff like evolution Christians (practicing) will always fight it. Does this turn the world upside down!
