In a world where it seems like everything we touch turns to crap, Can anybody tell me why the world wouldn't be better off if we were simply annihilated off the face of the earth tomarrow? Is there anything good about us being here?

Getting rid of humans would actually create a huge number of problems. For example, who would take care of all the crap we left behind? Don't get me wrong, whales are cool and all but they really wouldn't have the faintest idea of how to clean up after us. Also, wiping out apex predators like humans (or wolves, bears, lions, etc.) is incredibly bad for the ecosystem. That would just be replacing one problem with another.
I'm not saying that the human race is perfect, far from it. But if you're going to have an honest evaluation of our worth you're going to have to include the good with the bad. If these sorts of things really bother you it's time to get off the computer and take practical steps towards solving the problems you see. Practical steps mind you, not standing in front of a building waving a sign and chanting slogans. Educate yourself on the issues before you decide what to do.

First of all, I would invite you to change your perspectivve, and then start making changes in the world around you.
Imagine how boring the world would be if it were 'perfect'. Imagine going to a movie where there was no conflict - where the first frame is 'and they lived happily ever after', and then two hours of rainbows, pixie dust, and harp music. I'd be asleep in 15 minutes, if not sooner. Or be on my way out of the theater.
We are given a life that allows us to have a wide variety of experiences. What you should remember is that without all of these negative things, we cannot have positives. Without need, we can't have charity and kindness. How can you be charitable to someone who has everything? How can you feel good about helping an old lady across the street if she is every bit as able bodied as you? Without ignorance, how can you teach? Or learn? Imagine if you knew everything. What would you do?
If you were teaching a kindergartener to play checkers, and you played them, and you won, would you have any satisfaction from this? There's no challenge! What joy and satisfaction is there in that? But if you won the City Checkers championship, you would probably feel some level of satisfaction.....because there is challenge and conflict there. It's the same with life.
In the movies, we enjoy seeing the main characters go through the movie and conquer whatever conflict is in front of them....whether the conflict is surviving a storm, an alien attack, or capturing some criminal or foiling some plot. In life, we derive satisfaction from the same things.
So when you see these things, ignorance, prejudice, unkindness, be a part of the solution. These are things you can't solve yourself, but you can be one person who decides they aren't going to be a part of the problem, but rather a part of the solution. When you make that decision, tell others! There is no magic bullet, or one thing you can do that will solve these problems. But you can resolve in your mind to be a small part of the solution.
Do you have what it takes?

You are perceiving the issues as a glass that is half empty and not as one that is half full. Humans are capable of extreme hate (and the related consequences), true, however the same brain also gives them the capacity of extreme love (Mother Teresa etc. etc.....). There are any number of ordinary people like you and me who have given their lives to save another, corruption should be viewed alongwith philanthropic donation and so on.
One single reason why we should not be annihilated is that the human race now has the potential avert a hit from a comet/asteroid that is large enough to destroy all life on earth (remember the dinosaurs).
So look on the brighter side of life and SMILE.

wow
how about pride my friend?
productive achievement?
go downtown wherever you live
look at the buildings
think of them not as evil shells to hold evil people, but as pilliars of ability.
You must have an ability?
aren't you proud of it.
i can see that you know a bit about history.
i can see you appreciate animals.
but in the wild, animals fight amongst themselves
but they can't build a spacecraft, or harvest a crop of olives. They can't create a skyscraper or write music. No animal has the ability to take a pile of silicone, copper, plastic and glass and create a tool of instantaneous global comunication.
Productive achievement... and the pride in it
that is what i tell you is good about the human race

You exist, and that is really cool. Even if you did ALL those things, there is still hope, hope for a better tomorrow. Don't despair, and realize that your life matters, and I'm glad to be able to communicate with you.
We can make this world better, just don't give up, or give in.
