Football (futbol) or Soccer is the #1 sport in the world. So why doe it stink in the US?

Hey, bldvl24, if soccer is pointless how come it's the most popular sport in the world BY FAR?

Furthermore, if the goal is so wide as you describe, how come it's a LOW-SCORING sport? (Fortunately -- have you ever noticed how predictable and therefore boring your high-scoring sports are?)

In the future, try using some logic in your thinking, lest you become as moronic as the sports you like.

National support and poor marketing.

I "grew up" playing soccer per say.. played a total of 8 years and every position on the field (though I was never a starting goalie, I could sub if need be) I can remember the kids that played football AND soccer, usually got crap from their highschool coaches if they missed a football game or practice for a soccer game or practice.

A lot of times, they'd also get crap from the coach telling them that soccer was a "girl's sport" or that only guys who were feminine played soccer...

.. because after all it's much manlier to wear tight pants and slap your team mates on the rears while rolling around with the other guys on the field than it is to kick a ball.

You say America stinks at football, but they are currently 7th (ahead of big teams like England and Italy) in the FIFA world rankings, so really they aren't bad at all.

I have actually heard this thing about certain influential people in American sports don't want football to become big because they are worried they will lose out financially if another sport is competing for fans.

The media specially(TVs) have contracts with little championships of other sports! So they have to show in order to make money!

So imagine you being a peanut butter company and you paid a hundred thousand to show your commercial in one of those little leagues the US has. You want to pursue the commercials you paid for! Right?

While the world cup is much more expensive, and you being a peanut butter guy, you have to pay much more to show your name during the games!

Because football is non stopping game, not like those sports the US has, which you can actually watch more commercial than game!

With the US sports the media can make good money selling hot dogs, hamburgers, and juice among other things, on those intervals or stops they have in order to measure things, spit, etc.

So not until the World Cup is at the corner the TVs will start advertising it!

For some reason i think it is because real american males play baseball. soccer is a pointless sport you kick a ball into a net the size of a house and the score is 1-0 or some stupid thing like that but other then that just cause soccer sucks

It stinks in the US because soccer in the US didnt become popular until the world held here in 1994, so people werent intereseted in the sport and didnt know as much about it until the US World Cup.

There is no fun in soccer, besides we already have real football here. and no it is not the #1 sport in the world. It is the boringist sport in the world. I think that was what you were trying to say.

Plus Raiders fans dont need to have any respect. We are the ones who demand the respect. Just because we intimidate others doesnt mean we need to respect anybody. This is Raider Football. It's becasue most Americans prefer other sports like basketball, American football, and baseball. However, soccer is becoming more popular with young kids, so someday our teams may be kicking the butts of other teams.

North Americans care less becuase marketers and organizers in this part of the world not only lack full knowledge of the game, the marketing strategy does not appear to be well done. Note also that in order to have a very effective league you need to pump money into it part of which also entails getting world class players and not retirees. This seems missing in North America.
