Angels - Christianity?

I was baffled when I read that some Christians believe that we become angels when we die! This is not a Christian teaching and am wondering how many Christians out there believe it to be true. Please give reasons, theological preferably.

Update:

I want to clarify that it is not baffling to me IF we become angels, but that some Christians don't know this is a false teaching. Thanks for the responses thus far.

I don't believe that either. I think some misinterpret this passage: For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.... Mark 12:25

If you read the entire context (provided below) Jesus isn't saying that we become angels or even like angels in all respects, but that marriage is not binding in heaven.

Source(s): 18Then some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him; and they asked Him, saying: 19“Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies, and leaves his wife behind, and leaves no children, his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. 20Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife; and dying, he left no offspring. 21And the second took her, and he died; nor did he leave any offspring. And the third likewise. 22So the seven had her and left no offspring. Last of all the woman died also. 23Therefore, in the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be? For all seven had her as wife.” 24Jesus answered and said to them, “Are you not therefore mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God? 25For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26But concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the burning bush passage, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly mistaken.” Mark 12:18-27

That is not what I was taught in bible class. Angels have never taken a mortal human form. Seraphims, cherabims, guardians angels have not been humans. God has angels in heaven who rule by his side. Our guardian angels are with us on earth. I also believe that angels do come to help us in times of great need, emergencies, visit us when we are sick, etc. People do become Saints.

Read Hebrews 1 & 2. The Bible is clear, God's purpose is man, not angels. The Son of God became a man and died to set men free. He rose again, and now there is a MAN in heaven, who is the first-fruit of many to come.

We do not become Angels. The Scripture tells us that we will know as we were known on Earth. I cannot tell you exactly where that Scripture is, but I know that it is there. See if you can get a copy of Billy Graham's Book - Angels, Angels, Angels. It should clear up your confusion.

It comes from Word-deprivation. The same place we get purgatory, getting to heaven by living a good life, shooting abortion doctors, calling sins like homosexuality and fornication not sin, all the superstitions and stupidities of the middle ages like burning witches at the stake, and believing things like "God helps those who help themselves" and "cleanliness is next to godliness" are actually verses in the Bible.

Take God's Word out of Christianity, and all you have is church-ianity, superstition, and silly mythology.

The more I know or think I know the less I understand. What I do know...is that we will not ever become an angel.

I truly believe that once when I was a child, I saw my guardian angel...not only that but my brother also saw it. It scared us both, but to this day...we both say that we saw it.

I remember hearing that angels have never taken a human form or lived on earth as a mortal and since hearing that I am also confused!

I share your feelings. It is not scriptural. Angels are created beings..and when we die I do not believe that we become angels.

When Christians die perhaps they become floating pixie dust ufo spirit orbs. Perhaps.

    Why?

Because it says (or doesn't) it in some ancient text somewhere.

from one's belief, iu guess. a lot of bibles and theories are disagreeing and agreeing about that. my opinion: no. angels aren't really a point to be pointed at when it comes to christianity
