Aside from sharing your "faith", what is your warmest memory of helping ,or being helped, by a stranger?

Update:

Thanks a lot "guys" for some really great replies. Very interesting, and heart warming. I wish I could give you all 10 points. Have a great night/day!

I was driving on the interstate in the rain, and my car hydroplaned and went off the road. My car ended up flipping over and rolling 3 times over an embankment and ended up in a flooded creek. No one saw me go over the hill, and I had to climb up that hill, bleeding all over and in and out of consciousness, to get help. I'll never forget the moment I crested the hill, and right there, immeditately was a man who stopped and helped me. I was very far from any hospital, and he drove me to the hospital. He kept me talking because he was afraid if I went unconscious I may not wake up. He had a daughter my age, and so he kept treating me like he would want someone to treat his own daughter, if she should ever be in such a situation. He was very gracious to sacrifice his time for me, and to let me in his car, because I was all muddy and bloody. (sorry to be gross).

My husband was in the hospital recovering from major surgery 20 odd yrs ago and we did not have any money because he had been out of work for a good while. My sister was home with our two children so I could stay with him. I did not have any money to eat on so I would gather what food I could that had not been opened on the trays that were waiting for pick up for the kitchen. We were both smokers and we did not have any cigarettes left, the black couple(we are white) that was about 20 yrs older than us in the other bed (her husband had some type of surgery too) heard us quietly and desperately discussing our financial situation. We were always trying to respect each other's privacy but the lady came up to me shortly thereafter and gave me $5.00. I protested because they were just common people like us and I knew she probably couldn't afford to give away $5.00. The feeling of goodness and human kindness cannot ever be repaid on this earth to those good people. I cry to even think of it and how the world is now.

People trying to share their faith with me, are none of my warmest memories. Especially after the moment I tell them I am not interested, and that happens about 20 seconds after we start talking.

And my help has nothing religious to it. I am a teacher, so I think I help my students a lot in my field. That would be my warmest memory, and my most recent one, too. Because that happens every day.

I was stuck up badly with my family, with no help at hand, in the middle of night on a highway, with a punctured front wheel and I didn't even have a jack. Suddenly, a very grand rich man, came out of his mansion, arranged all necessary accessories, and with his own hands, helped me get my car back on road. He did not even let his watchman put a helping hand. I was speechless, but he was most unassuming and did not even expect gratitude! He must have been a thoroughly self-made great man.

This one time I was running from the cops and it was snowing outside. I was looking for a place to hide and I saw a bum behind a trash can in a cardboard house. He waved for me to come hide with him. When I got in his "house," he asked if the cops were chasing me and I said "Yes." Then we saw the cops run by and he said "Here, take my blanket." I was shocked. Here is this guy freezing out in the cold and he offers me his blanket when I just lived across the alley in a 2 story condo. I took his blanket and said "Thanks." It was too dirty to take into my house so I used it as a door mat. The next day I was looking out my window at the bum in the alley and he saw me in the window and waved. It was really snowing hard that day and he was wet and cold. I just drank my hot chocolate and waved at him. He died the next day. The doctor said he froze to death. Everytime I wipe my feet on my door mat (his blanket) I remember that freezing old man.

I cant even remember when was the last time but I can tell you that there was so much encounters. I had experience all of these unexpectedly. I got them from strangers instead of my friends.
