if you hear the motor running look behind the washer there is usually a panel with 1/4 inch screws towards the lower half.unplug before opening. the belt usually runs around about three to four pullies. the motor is usually the adjuster, one bolt has a slotted hole for adjustment. if the belts broken take it to the hardware to measure it if you take it to the appliance shop the price could be double.

if its not the belt it could be the trans. ( gearbox) most likely the belt if it stopp working all at once.

I had the same problem with my old washers(4 in 5 years). It was the motor everytime, which can be very costly to have a repairman come to your house. I decided to get a new washer. One with no agitator!! A Whirlpool Duet front loader. The best choice I made. If you've noticed dryers always out last the washer(I only had 1). It's because of the agitator. It puts alot of wear and tear on the washer.

Hey, I believe that you may have a broken or worn out gearbox. Can you hear the motor running? If not it may be a burnt-out motor. You should buy a Fisher & Paykel if you want a new washer - they have a direct drive motor which means there is less moving parts and less to go wrong.

I have the same problem now-I don't think it's the lid switch because I hear buzzing with the lid open & not when it's closed. Does this mean the lid switch is working? I can't see how to remove he lid.

Check the belts first! Easy fix if it is a broken belt(s)
