What is the verbal form of the noun "surveillance"?

It almost seems to be "to survey", but that's not quite right. "To keep surveillance" isn;t right either, since "keep" is a verb but "surveillance" itself is a noun. And it sure isn't "to surveil"!

Oddly enough surveillance is not defined as 'to keep surveillance on whatever whatever' it is however defined as 'Close observation of a person or group, especially one under suspicion'

Using this definition, I would have to guess the the verbal form of suveillance is to observe.

Being a minute late answering questions is detrimental to hiding the perception of knowing more than you actually do. Answer 1 sounds best.

I think the best is "to carry out surveillance', but it is clunky. Of course "watch" would do it, but it is only one sylllable.

There is no direct verb equivalent that uses the same root. (the etymology is French and we don't include the whole spectrum of derivitaves in English) The closest verb that I can think of off the top of my head is 'to spy' on someone.
