Is anyone out there a plumber?
We need some help. We have a toilet that won't flush properly and is getting worse by the day. We have used lye, sulfuric acid, root cleaner, plungers and snakes. We have replaced all the exposed drain lines. There is a gurgling noise in the bathtub when you flush the toilet. It didn't used to have a P trap on the tub, but now it does and it doesn't seem to help either. Can anyone suggest what our next move should be or what the problem may be so we can correct it?

kitten you have to check the trap in the basement, or out to the street with public sewer system. if you have a septic tank, it might be full, or the leech-field is clogged. if you are rural, chances are you're on an independant system,& if it's an older system it may not be able to handle the amount of sewage you put out. P.S. your toilet is probably the lowest point on the system, so things will show up there first. also make sure the vent pipes are still working above the house.

Try pulling the stool up from the floor. First thing to check is to see if the wax bowl seal is partially blocking the toilet drain opening in the bottom. Sometimes the wax seal will cover ht eoutlet partially and "grab" paper and waste and cause a blockage. While you have the toilet up, take the toilet outside and set it up on some blocks or something to raise it off of the ground. Fill the tank with a garden hose so it is full and flush it. See if it flushes good that way. If it still flushes bad, you may have to "delime" the toilet. While the toilet is outside, fill the tank halfway and empty the bowl of all water. Get some muriatic acid and fill the bowl tot he normal water line, or until the acid starts to come out of the bottom. Pour some acid down through the overflow tube in the tank also. This will clean out the holes in the rim. Let the acid sit for a few hours. After that is done, flush the acid out with several flushes. That should get the lime buildup out of the toilet. To check the main sewer while the toilet is up, take the garden hose and put it in the sewer and turn it on full. Watch and see if it backs up the drain to the opening. If it does and it is rather quick to do so, the blockage is close to the opening. If it doesnt back up with the garden hose, try a 5 gallon bucket full of water and dump it into the sewer. The sewer line should take the entire 5 gallons and shouldnt back up. If it does, it is probably a vent problem. Good luck!

sounds like air maybe vent clogged
"bubble" indicates a clogged line while a "gurgle" indicates a blocked vent. let me explain. When you flush the discharge drains down the pipe untill it hits a partial clog. Then it rebounds back sending a "bubble" of air ahead of it. When you flush a toilet or drain a bathtub a suction is created by the water rushing down the pipe. This suction is relieved by a open pipe that runs to the outside called a vent. When a vent's stopped up the suction has to relieve itself somwhere, in this case your toilet. The noise you hear is the air being pulled through the trap by suction, (gurgle).
As long as the gurgle doesn't occur every time you flush or drain I wouldn't be too concerned. If it becomes worse I would snake out the vent that services the toilet that makes the noise.

Ya know, If the actaul toilet is the problem then I would just replace the toilet it self. All you have to do is turn the water supply off going to the house, Usually all you need to do is open up the lid outside your house on the street and use a wrench. They make sure you have the measurements and go to lowes or Home Depot and ask them about which toilet. They arent that expensive.

if you have a child
he/she may have thrown something in there...
we had that problem and it turned out to be a bottle/jar cap stuck in there. could be a plastic toy..has anyone noticed any toys missing? like a pet's toy or something?
also people who throw flushable kitty litter have this problem.
a cleaning cloth could be down there.
gurglling sounds usually mean there is an object [ could be a rag/cloth] wash cloth[ any missing?
also there is a chance that tree roots are obstructing the sewerage flow near the house?
you may need to replace the whole comode...
it will need a new wax seal..I know..
call Home depot or Lowe's
they know the answer...
