Why do so many people think sperm dies as soon as it hits air??

I just read yet another answer stating that sperm can't survive at all in air. That unless a guy's penis is physically in the girl's vagina at the time of ejaculation it is completely impossible to become pregnant. These are beyond wrong. Are there really so many people out there with such a lack of knowledge regarding sex?

Update:

I would like a serious answer from someone who thinks this.

How does artifical insemination work if sperm die as soon as they meet air? If ejaculation must occur within the vagina?

I don't know how seriously I can answer...

Personally, I think...."the world is full of stupid people, and we're surrounded by idiots"

The facts of life are taught to us as children and hopefully as we grow up (some of us at least)...further our education and don't go through life being ignorant of our bodies' abilities. But sadly, a HUGE number of us continue on, oblivious...so much for Darwinism...with myths like this floating around...its no wonder all the stupid people are breeding.

K i was interested on actually finding an answer i went online for about 20 minutes and this is what i got!

Sperm is amazing stuff. It can live outside of your body for probably about an hour. The rule of thumb most health educators use is to avoid contact with semen and other bodily fluids while they are wet. This is not only because there may be active sperm, but because there may be bacteria and virus that are still alive in the fluid. Just to be safe, it is best to use precautions around dried bodily fluids as well. This means not allow the fluid to come into direct contact with your skin.

Does this sound right to anyone?

with artifical insemination it is shot in to a cup and immediatly used or frozen ask a fertility doctor. but it does die very quickly once it hits the air less than five minutes im sure this was never discussed in my sex ed classes

  • Because people are missinformed by so many people. If sperm dies as soon as it hits air then INVITRO fertilization and sperm banks would not be able to happen...all Gynecologists, midwifes, and doctors I have asked said sperm dies in unfavorable environments in 20 minutes.

I've heard that same statement also from some book. But in another mag or book it says it survives 24 hours out of the body. Which one is true?

Anyone who says something as purely fictional as that, well....they should probably invest in a sex ed course.

Personally I haven't heard anyone state this. They should go back to high school health class if they do.
