Should a teenager ....?

If your parents can afford it, and they're willing to pay for your college tuition - then go for it!

But if family finances are not so good, there has to be some sort of compromise between you and your parents. May you can split all the school expenses, or you can try for community college.

If the parents have the resources and want to pay for the four-year degree, I think it is appropriate. You could chip in by getting a part-time job or doing work study. After you graduate and get a good-paying job, you could pay them back in installments.

If the parents can afford it, they should at least help pay for college. Carrying a full class load and getting good grades are an absolute must for the parents to help and or pay for all of it. Also one other thing, those females out there whose parents do pay for your college education should not expect them to pay for your wedding too!!!!

It depends on the aptitude and enthusiasm of the teenager.

If he/she is keen on a college education, and is focused and wants to work at it, I believe parents should pay for most of it. Especially if it's at a highly regarded institution.

Even so, the teen should work summers and a little (8-10/hrs/week) while in school to help pay for it. It will actually build discipline and assist in giving them direction for a future career.

Otherwise, let the teenager pay for it as the teen sees fit.

I was required to get a scholarship to attend college, got a full ride and my parents were not responsible for the tuition. I believe that it is not a parents responsibilty to pay for your college degree after all they not going to be able to enjoy the money that you will be making if you get a degree.

I think the parents should help if they can... there is nothing wrong with both paying for it. If you have a good job and make decent money then help to pay for your own schooling... it will make you feel stronger of a person once you are done.

It all depends on the teenager. My parents and I are splitting the costs between us. I'm paying the fourth year so I will have money saved up. If you already have the money, you might want to help, but, if your parents are willing to pay, you'll have spending money for dining out, clothes and entertainment.

Well a little help from the parents is appreciated, but i say the teenager should take a loan either from their parents or the bank, just for the reason to be a little responsible. If all is paid for, then education will not be valued much. Think about it.

Parents are not obligated to pay for ANYTHING once you are working and on your own. They obviously raised you to be self sufficient. Give them a break!! There are all kinds of grants and scholarships to help you go to school. It will mean more to you if YOU pay your own way. Show some respect for your parents and yourself, honey.
