Should I follow my heart or follow the money? Help me decide!?

Money or happiness? Would you accept a job paying less (lots less, but enough to survive) which offered you a chance to do something you truly loved doing...or a job with a big salary doing something you're good at, qualified for, but not especially enthusiastic about?

Whatever you do, do with all your might. Be passionate about your dream

You'll have to make this call on your own, based on what you want out of life, your existing support network and resources, your passion for the lower-paying job, etc.

Personally, I went the lower paying route and never looked back.

Yeah, well, maybe I looked back a time or two when cash flow got tight... that steady big paycheck from Corporate America gives you a lot of options, and tight budgets... they're just not as much fun as bigger budgets.

Even so, I know I made the right decision - and that was 20 years ago.

Your decision here does not have to be forever. Maybe you can follow your spirit for a few years and then reassess. Maybe you'll feel much less fulfilled by the work, or maybe you'll find a way to make it more remunerative.

Or, take the big bux job and volunteer as much time as you can to the cause.

Bottom line: the decision you're making isn't 100% for life. It's as much as you choose to give, for as long as you want to. Hopefully, that'll make it easier to make the choice.

    Good luck,

    Rex

I would positively choose the lesser paying job and do what I love doing. You may find opportunities for advancement or branching out and still be doing the thing you love. If you choose the higher paying one, you are in a dead-end place because the passion isn't there. Who knows what little gems of opportunity can arise while doing what you love! Most people go through life never knowing what they want or love to do, so if you do know...go for it!!

Also, if you are open to another stream of income, you could start building a home business at the same time, then you would have the best of everything! Worked for me!!

I would definetely take the job Im happy with for less pay! Its hard enough to get up on a cold winter morning and go to a job you LOVE but almost impossible to do so with a job you hate!!! Ive had a couple jobs where I was making AMAZING money!!! But the circumstances made it hell! 32 degrees or lower 12 hours a day! I was blue after 2 hours !!! HATED it CALLED off wayyyy too much and finally quit! Go for the job that makes you happy!

Happiness. Because, if you love your job..it won't seem like one...whereas in the other job..although you do get a bigger paycheck..it might seem to drag. And in the long run, you will be unhappy. Remember, you are spending a decent chunk of your life working. You may just have a once in a lifetime opportunity to do a job you love. So, I say, follow your heart.

Yep. I do it every day. I work at a job that is not my dream job but it is a great job. I enjoy what I do. This job does not pay very well, but it provides me with the flexibility to live my life as I choose. If I have kids, I can pick them up from school, take them on field trips, and have them in my office in the afternoons. I can do my errands, emails, and a second job as a merchandiser. All in all, I wouldn't change it (unless they wanted to give me a raise, in which case I would be ok with that change!).

George Burns once said," I would rather be a failure at something I love then be successful at something I hate." So follow your heart, plenty of time to get money latter on.

The Beatles summed it up quite well in their song "Can't Buy Me Love".

If you find something (or someone) you love, do it...the rewards will follow.
