What about moving to Scottsdale, AZ?
I'm a young professional that currently resides in Tempe but is thinking about moving to Scottsdale. I have heard so much about the cost of living being astronomical there. Is it worth it? Is Chandler a nice area? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Tempe and Scottsdale are not that far apart from each other, so there should not be any real difference except that Tempe is probably a little less expensive. Chandler is off in the other direction going south and seems to be away from the action in my opinion. If you're looking for a place that is unique but still affordable and the cost of living is a little bit less, try Arrowhead Ranch in the Glendale area. More specifically, look into Arrowhead Lakes where I have my home. It is one of the few areas in Maricopa County where you can have your own boat on your own private lake with fishing (catch and release), hiking trails nearby, the Loop 101 at your back door and have the prestige of living in a well kept community (Homeowners Association) without the hassles of a gated community. It is quiet since it's tucked away from the main roads but still close to everything you'd want as far as shopping, malls, businesses, etc. It's located north of the Loop 101 and is bordered on the west by 59th Ave. and on the east by 51st Ave (which more or less dead-ends into the mountain). Anyway, that's my input! :)

The question would be, where do you work?
As you know, this is not an easy city to get around in since there is basically just 3 or 4 major freeways. If you work in Tempe, Chandler is not a bad drive. If you work in Chandler, you don't want to live in Scottsdale (too far).
I actually live in Cave Creek which is about a 15 minute drive north of Scottsdale. It's more quiet but only about a 10 minute drive from the 101 and the 51. It's pretty here and I like being away from all the traffic. I am also about 10 minutes from the Desert Ridge area. The community that I live is Tatum Ranch which is still pretty affordable considering where we are.
Good Luck to you!

I am a Realtor and I live up here in Scottsdale. For me it is worth every penny of my home. Everything is down the road yet it is not crammed. Low crime. You should drive around a bit and see if it is the place for you. Chandler home prices have skyrocketed too. I would rather spend my money up here. Just an opinion. All of AZ is wonderful

Its not a bad city at all, everything you could ever want is probably within ten minutes of driving if that. There is much to do during the day and night alike, and crime rate is generally low. Chandler is nice, but I would prefer Scottsdale because it's more centralized.

Im born and raised here in Tempe, and for me I would never move to Scottsdale. I have lived in Chandler and really it is not too much different from Tempe. Depending on your life style Scottsdale may work for you, tends to be alot of older, and yuppy (if you will ) people.

omg!! i frickin love scottsdale!! i live here! so ya, its a great place to live, low crime rate, except the prices are really high in north scottsdale where i live! in south scottsdale its just scary!! McDowell Mtn. Ranch is a nice place to live, not too expensive if your looking in the $700,000 kind of range around there. DC ranch is REALLY expensive tho, the houses there are ALL over a million dollars. but it is a nice place to live. everything you need is there!
