The Supreme Court of the US just slapped Bush silly on the war crimes issue.?

Sorry, I just needed to vent on this one. Add your comments as you see fit.

-Dio

His reaction was, “Well I will get congress to enact a law allowing the tribunals.”

Yo, idiot. The supreme court ruled on a constitutional issue. Now get this through your pointy little beady eyed head, congress passing a law will not change that constitutional issue. Unless you want them to tack it on to that Constitutional Amendment banning guy marriages.

Um, there is a course back in High School you must have slept through. It was called “Civics”

You want them to see their day in court? I do too. Make it a normal court where these things should be tried, not some bogus tribunal for conspiracy charges. Believe it or not, the existing court system can handle it. Quit screwing with the Constitution to reflect your warped view of reality.

Oh, and about congress passing that law? Don’t hold your freaking breath. You are out of political coin, you already spent it all. Let me introduce you to the serpent, you ought to get to know him.

Update:

Bryrose, I did not read the opinion itself, and you have a good point. I apparantly need to.

Thanks

Update 2:

Plus, the question was what everybody else thought about it. I gave my opinion, I was interested in reading others opinions, and actually got one that was useful and I had not thought about.

Update 3:

Heh,

Rebel, last time I looked, Hillary and Ted were not on the Supreme Court, and no, they are not my favorite people either.

Like I said, I also want the prisoners tried, just not in a secret tribunal.

Anyway, thanks everybody for the answers. I get to think about things too, which was the point of the question.

Not learning anything new is called dead. You may still breath, but...

Before you go off on rants you should really read the decision. The court left open the possibility of congress enacting new law allowing tribunals.

I also feel the need to point out that these are not American citizens, and as such are not subject to the same rights as American citizens. They are also not true enemy combatants which does not make them subject to the Geneva Convention. The Supreme Court has once again over stepped it bounds, and in essence have just ratified a treaty with terrorists which is completely outside their juristiction.

Don't misunderstand I am not trying to slap you down, or denigrate your opinion, just trying to give clarification. I do not believe this decision is a good one for anyone involved. For Americans it puts our safety in jeopardy yet again. It also places the lives of the same people it is designed to help in jeopardy. Consider this, when faced with the reality that we cannot safely detain enemy non- combatants what will the result be on the battlefield? I can tell it isn't going to be altruistic in nature.

DeeJay I don't remember the rights of Americans ever being an issue in this case. In fact in cases where American Citizens have been accused of the same acts they have been tried in American criminal courts with full constitutional protection.

Wow, you really need to read the ruling and not get to caught up in your hateful glee as if you have just won the super bowl. The reason that he is going to ask congress is because in Judge Stevens writing for the majority had written that if these were approved by congress they may be allowable.

I think these prisoners should be released into your custody since you care about them so much.

    A. Bush won't be able to salary conflict all on his own. He had a lot of accomplices in Congress. B. by utilizing your reason, each and every member of Congress who voted to grant him the authority to flow into Iraq should be tried as well. this can contain the present vp and Secretary of State. So if that's an street the libs opt to pursue, have at it.

So now the Supreme Court decides how wars are fought. Add to that the option of having terrorists, thousands of them tried in our court system, using our laws and at our expense. Heck, lets just lure all terrorists in, send invitations, they can all do exactly what they've been doing and succeeding at, using our laws against us.

The Supreme Court of the United States did one thing I am sure you will like. All of the captured terrorist will now have the SAME rights in a court of law as American citizens enjoy. We will provide them Lawyers at taxpayers expense and further crowd the federal courts. They will have the same appeal rights as all American citizens enjoy. You think you won something for your Muslim Friends....I agree...You surely did....Big time. Congratulations to all you liberals. Thanks Hillary and Ted

    The emperor has no courts.

He is just a president after all, and the court system of the United States of America, in full view of the public, will just have to do.

What the supreme court did helps all Americans, buy protecting our laws that Bush wants to circumvent

If it wasn't against the law there would be no discussion right now.

you are the idiot, son. al qeda douchebags are NOT american citizens and therefore NOT afforded the same constitutional protection that we are!!! what the hell is wrong with you?!?

as for the geneva convention nonsense, that is actually a TREATY. something signed by nations, of which those terrorists don't belong.....it's not applicable!!!!!! besides, do they give their captives the same "humane" treatment?!? no, dumbass.....the just LOP OFF THEIR FREAKIN HEADS!!!!!!!!!!
