Absolutely! They have a normal life span and can have unaffected children. It is NOT passed down from the parents.

Our Pediatric Neurologist said our son will have children without CP, (provided the doctor doesn't let the babies asphyxiate during delivery, like he was). Both parents can have CP and have children without it.

It is not a disease, it is a condition caused by lack of oxygen to the brain. This occurs either before, during, or after birth and can also be caused by a traumatic brain injury (shaken baby, severe fall, etc.) to a young child. It isn't always caused during birth, although the majority of cases are due to asphyxia during the birthing process.

Source(s): My son has Cerebral Palsy and I've done TONS of research.

A 'normal' life would depend on the degree of severity, but it is caused a brain injury before or during birth. Injuries are not genetic so you can have normal children.

Source(s): I'm a student and had to look this one up.

He is different from others without the ailment, needless to say, yet he can lead a "regular" existence.

Yes, because the CP genes are recessive, but if the spouse carries the genes as well, there will be 50:50 chance of CP babies.

yes. Cerebal Palsey is often caused by something the Dr did in the delivery room. It's not genetic.
