Before you quit - spend the next three months living on your new salary (lower).....

If you can do it and not screw up your credit....then you know it's the right thing to do.....and you will have built up a savings reserve to help you out in the beginning...

I took a paycut a few years ago, for different reasons. I could not make ends meet. Luckily, I was able to return to my profession at a great salary.

If you don't have a back up plan, it will be tough. As you stated, you'll have to start from scratch.

However, someone out there will be willing to appreciate your 7 years experience and hire you based on that. You may have to "tailor" your resume to fit the job, but it's doable.

Is sales really your thing? If you are thinking about leaving, then I would. Why deal with all the stress? you can;'t put a price on your health and well-being. Find something that you love to do and it won't feel like work!

It depends on how badly you want out of sales. If you're in a job you hate but are making good money, is the money worth the lack of happiness or job satisfaction?

Try to find a career path where all your sales experience can be used in, so you won't have to take a dramatic drop in pay. (Although you wouldn't be getting commission anymore). Put together your resume by showing what skills you have (that you learned by being in sales) and showing how they can be useful in your new career.

12 years ago i took an enormous pay cut and quit my job when my 20 year marriage broke up. i changed everything. my new goal, my only goal, was to laugh as much as possible. i am now a server, make much less money, and have been blessed with many good things. i'm glad i made the switch. good luck- its a big, scary decision. go with your heart.

You just have to find the product you are passionate about. It took me sometime and I even left the sales industry for awhile but came right back and have never looked back.

If you hate your job, then get out as quickly as you can. Staying at a job that you hate will only get worse as time goes by.
