Are Christians Bad in Debating ?

In this forum I have found, that all the time non chrstians manage to bring home their arguments much convincingly with more than sufficient information to back up their arguments. Where as the christians always try to hide behind the word "God" - no enough support to justify their arguments. Am I right?

You are right because all Christians have to back them up is Faith which is intangible. We don't have a snapshot of God nor do we have special powers that athiests lack to convince people that there is a God. I wouldn't go as far as saying that Athiests have more information. There is no exact science or proven facts about humanities origin. It is mostly unproven theory and speculation. For now, I do not need to debate with any Athiest about my faith because it is mine and not theirs. They are no worse off because I believe and I am no worse off because they don't. I would however like to see the disrespectful questions and answers on both sides of the issue stop because it is mean spirited no matter what you believe

I don't think one's spiritual beliefs have anything to do with their debating abilities or lack thereof.

There are plenty of articulate people in this world, Christian and non-Christian alike. However, there are a lot of inarticulate people as well.

Then there are those who feel so passionately about a subject that they cannot help but be carried away by their feelings, thus are less than cohesive in expressing their thoughts.

Additionally, there are plenty of people who simply don't wish to debate things. I for one consider myself a Christian, and I know where I stand on things, and I don't have the time or the inclination to get into a debate on those points. Perhaps more non-Christians (I'm not sure who you are categorizing as a non-Christian, by the way.) enjoy the fun and challenge of debate.

Christians are great at debates. Just understand what a debate is in actuality.

    Debates are purposeless by definition:

"I'm going to change your opinion of what you believe to my opinion of what I believe, AND you are not going to change my opinion of what I believe because I KNOW I am right."

It's commonly assumed that a debate is two-sided, which is far from reality. In the debate mentality, one side always assumes there is only one side (their side) and the other side is just some sort of neurotic talking living anomaly espousing some sort of verbal delusion.

Verbal Intercourse( not sexual) is more liking to produce some change in a personal perspective because by definition, intercourse is an "exchange" in this case being ideas. The premise is assumed that both parties want the exchange of ideas and are open to those ideas as a plausible alternative to their own original perspective.

As a great mind once said on Y!A (not me) :

"How do you conduct a two-way debate with a one-sided mind?"

After reading this, needless to say, my opinion on debates has been changed.

Some X-tians are very good. But other than those 2 dudes and 3 chicks, every other christian on here debates like a 6 year old.

The muslims are (USUALLY) smarter and more tolerant of disputing view points, wich surprised me 'cause FOX news tells me all muslims are evil and that X-tians are the best. Why would my television LIE TO ME? I really need some emothional support here. I'm getting a little verklempt.

maybe your biased or you haven't read all the questions where Christians have debated. maybe the people on yahoo aren't experianced Christians who know what they're talking about. to come to your conclusion by looking at yahoo answers is pretty sad. i've gone to a couple of real debates with a Christian and atheist and the Christian clearly won. then again there are probably times when the opponent has won.

either way you can't judge debating skills off yahoo answers. different people have different skill levels and this applies to debating.

It's not that we dont have stuff to take stand. But it's the other way round. We can wake up a person who is really sleeping but try waking a person who is pretending.

It's the same way if they come in to really know something, they would certainly feel satisfied with what we say.But they seem to come with a a preconceived notion that they are correct all the time.

We human are created with "free will".In the garden of eden God said "dont eat that fruit, if you do so u'll surely die".But He never imposed it on them.If God A;mighty did'nt impose but has given us freedom of free will then who are we to impose anything on anyone whether it be goo or bad.So only for these reasons we dont enter into debates.

I agree that a lot (not all) of Christians will simply answer with because god said so, or its in the bible, or quote a bible verse. I think that a lot of the people (not all), that debate them on this forum are either ex Christians or were brought up in a household of that faith and have done research or have been educated about other beliefs and have more of an overall knowledge of religion since their beliefs may not tend to be focused on faith or something that they were born into.

Yes i think they use the Bible as the answers and "god" is sometimes used and abused! I am glad that no matter what we believe we can share what we think or feel about subjects that not too many people would dispute.

The only thing i have a problem with is that people talk for "god" and tell u how u are going to hell when it is not their opinion that matters if they believe in god then we will be judged by him NOT by anything anyone can say on here. I also dislike how they make "god" as someone to fear. I do not want to believe in a god that i have to fear! I thought Jesus died for ALL our sins not just a select few!

I am not sure if they are bad at debating they just hide behind the Bible and speak for GOD and that should be wrong in my book anyway.

Well, some Christians have found peace, joy, and happiness through a relationship with Jesus that is hard to articulate. And yes, some Christians have not thought about their faith widely enough (though deep as it may be) to debate it effectively.

While, non-Christians must encounter their faith on both an intellectual and spiritual level in order to successfully stand apart from an overwhelming US Christian culture.

    No.

    The use of profanity

    The lumping ALL christians together

The unwanted harsh statements to honest questions

The deceit (pretending to be someone your not.) (Ask J.D.)

The lies saying your answers were only answered with hate from Christians) Checked it out NO replys from Christians

Shows those who put down Christians are the worst at debating

Why look other wise when the Bible can give the best answer?

Christians don't debate. If you ask for proof they say it's all about faith. If you make a scientific argument on facts they turn around and say "But it says so in the bible" They can be convincing to people who don't think much because their answers are simple and easy. The opponent would be wrapped up in explaining a theory and providing supporting evidence and facts which takes much more attention and thought.
