I don't know where that nutritionist works or where they went to school, but prenatals are fine to take when you're trying to get pregnant..and why would women keep taking their prenatals even after they had they're baby...(not breastfeeding)? The pharmacist I work with still takes hers(prescription strength), and her last baby is 2 yrs old. Why would they sell prenatals over the counter if they can harm you? Compare the labels and see the difference, you need the folic acid as it helps prevent early birth defects, prescription ones have a little more folic acid than the OTC ones. A lot of women take prenatals when they are trying to conceive, if you don't usually take vitamins it will help you in getting healthier, and again for the folic acid...think about it....you usually don't find out you're pregnant until you're a few months along right???Wouldn't you want that folic acid in your system already? I didn't take mine before I found out I was pregnant...as mine was unplanned, but I filled and took my prenatals until my prescription ran out when my son was about 6 months old. Good luck in getting preggy and if you have any questions you should just call your doctors office and ask a nurse, or call your local pharmacy, we get questions like that all the time and any pharmacist you ask will know.

The earlier you take your prenatal vitamins the better, you can start builing up your body with the nutrients you need, specially the folic acid for your baby. Prenatal vitamis will help you avoid miscarriages, and some of the vitamis in it like vitamin B will help restore any damages you have in your liver or kidnees. When I planned my pregnancy the first thing my doctor prescribed was the prenatal vitamins, I took them for a month before I got pregnant and I have had a healthy pregnancy. If you search the net about prenatal vitamins you will see that everybody and all doctors recommend you to take them before concieving, whoever the nutritionist was that told you they are bad for you does not know what she is talking about. It is every where!! vitamins are good period. They might not make you more fertile but they do help your reproductive system work better, same as the rest of your body will, but remember you have to take lots of fluids with them, drinking plenty of water will help you have a good cervical mocus. If you already have a baby I am sure you will not have any problems concieving another child and remember there is nothing like planning a pregnancy, so do it for your baby.

My obgyn told me to take a vitamin with folic acid. She said either find a multivitamin or else a prenatal vitamin.
Its not that they will help you conceive, but what it is--is a protection again genetic defects that can be caused by a lack of folic acid. A deficit in folic acid in the first trimester can cause cerebral palsy.
vitamins are not a fertility drug--but are a way to help give your body the right nutrients it needs to make a healthy baby.
If you still arent sure or have more questions...ask your ob.

no the vitamins will not help you concieve they will only make you healthier - which is good. make an appointment with a fertility clinic, don't take advice on this matter from yahoo answers. Take advice from the professionals. AND GOOD LUCK MAKING A BABY

Yes you can take prenatal vitamins before you are pregnant and yes it does help. And NO its not harmful... You should also try and relax when you are having sex that helps too....
Call your OB doctor and they will tell you its ok to take.
Good Luck!!!!!

They don't help you conceive quicker..they just help create a better environment for a fertilzed egg to live and implant in.

I am a nutritionist
no they do not and it can be harmful to take prenatal vitamins before you are actually pregnant, prenatal vitamins contain less vitamins than normal multi vitamins, exctpt iron which is much too high for a non pregnant women.

No, but you do want to take a multi vitamin (not a prenatal) to make sure you are getting enough folic acid to prevent certain early birth defects.
