i have a large red blotch on my arm, is it skin cancer?

it started out more than a year ago as a scalely patch, about the size of a dime, now it is red, and shiney, and is slightly puffed up. I have feeling and normal arm hair is growing out of it. What should I do, other than the obvious, see a doctor. I had a large lump on my forehead once, i just cut it open with a razor blade and popped out a tumor. It healed up fine. Saved a trip to the doctor. I am thinking of trying some stuff on this spot. What is the opinion on this idea.

Update:

here is a pic of it, not sure if you can get to it though,

Go to a doctor. If you have something similar than maybe there is a pattern here and go have it looked at.

  • Well I hate to be a repeat of the above answers, but I say better safe then sorry see a Doc. They will be able to run the apporiate tests to see what it is.

Skin Cancer symptoms are as followed:

A skin growth that increases in size and appears pearly, translucent, tan, brown, black or mulitcolored,

A mole, birthmark or beauty mark that changes color, increases in size or thickness, changes in texture is irregular in outline,

A spot or growth that continues to itch , hurt, crust, scab, erode, or bleed,

An open sore or wound on the skin that does not heal, or persists for more then four weeks, or heals and then reopens.

If you have any of these symptoms see your doctor immediately....Even if you have other symptoms see your doc. immediately

Again, Better safe then Sorry! Take Care and I hope that everything turns out okay.

It sounds like an infection from the nail, red streaking lines generally mean blood poisoning. You should make a trip to your local emergency room or urgent care now instead of waiting until tomorrow because the infection can only get worse. Never treat a puncture wound from a rusty nail by yourself! Always see a doctor, they don't make tetanus shots for nothin'. Good Luck.

It looks as if it could be psoriasis's,if it is you need to see dermatologist, they have medication's that can help this condition but don't scratch it because that only make it worse and will get worse. But tell you friends not to panic it is not something you can spread to other,Good luck,John

would you STOP already, Dr, Frankenstein?

melanoma's are typically BLACK, you probably have a skin rash, psoriasis or excema...put away your machete and try the EASIEST stuff first, like SOAP, anti-fungal ointment, etc.

Save SURGERY for last and get someone who does it PROFESSIONALLY so you don't get an infection, like BLOOD POISONING...you can't cut your BLOOD out, ya know!

    ........sheesh, these kids!
