Plane ran out of gas, crashed into the Pacific, she died.

Or if you prefer, she's really the one who killed JFK............AND the radio star.

Recently, a documentary was done which tried to trace her last flight, based on the flight recordings. She was going into a wind, and was using up fuel faster than she realized. They used a computer to filter out the noise and estimate the distance of her transmissions to the ship she was speaking to. They believe she got lost by misinterpreting which island was which, went too far north of the island she was to land on, and ran out of fuel before she could correct her course. She may have been as close as 10 miles away from the island where she was trying to land.

Her plane was lost on a flight between New Guinea and Howland Island. In 1992, a search party reported finding remnants of Earhart's plane on Nikumaroro (formerly Gardner Island), Kiribati, but their claims were disputed by people who worked on Earhart's plane, and her fate remains a mystery.

I assume she ran out of gas and crashed into the ocean and perished. Not a fun way to go.

My father knew her and her navigator. And with most feels that she was first lost and then ran out of gas and crashed. He did report that the navigator's nickname was WrongWay and that people tried to talk her out of using him. Guess they were right/
