After raising two very active boys and sharing a shower with them this is what I ended up with as my "recipe":

I keep a spray bottle with water a little bleach inside my shower, and everyone sprays down the shower, and their feet before they get out.

Never put your socks and shoes on until your feet are completely dry, use a hair dryer if need be.

At the first sign of any itching or dryness - start applying Camphophenique (sp?) every night to your feet ( kinda the same principle as the Vick's cure, nut the Campho being a liquid penetrates every little nook and cranny - and works excellent for the toenail fungus thing too, by the way!)

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS wear clean socks

New insoles about 2-3 times a year, and replace socks as needed.

Anyway, that cured my oldest son who had THE worst athlete's foot and kept us safe. Most of this was trial and error and some input from a podiatrist (foot doctor)

DO NOT SOAK YOUR FEET IN BLEACH!! I have seen a person loose his feet after doing that; he completely killed his skin and tissue below his skin. You did not get your athletes feet from your husband. Common athletes foot is a yeast infection. This yeast is everywhere, all you need to do is allow a moist area to persist on your skin and you will grow some yeast. You can buy a good antifungal cream over the counter. To keep it from coming back; keep your feet dry. After a shower, dry between your toes before putting on your shoes.

  • first step, get rid of your old socks and buy only 100% cotton socks. next, make sure you never wear the same pair of shoes 2 days in a row, this gives the shoes a chance to dry out thoroughly. use desenex powder every single day, and change your socks halfway through the day. scrub your tub or shower out with cleanser that has bleach in it, scrub the cleanser with your bare feet. you can also soak your feet in bleach for a few minutes. stick your nose in your shoes and breath in. if it stinks, put desenex foot powder in there and let it sit for a day or 2, you have to kill the stuff. wash your washable shoes in the wash machine in hot water with lots of ammonia. dry them thoroughly in the sun. get rid of the non washable shoes. use athlete's foot cream before bed and in the morning after the shower. be sure your feet are dried off good by blowing the blow dryer at them. give your husband all the same treatments. good luck p.s. the day you stop using desenex powder is the time it will come back...use it daily!

Try washing your feet frequently. Try using cotton socks avoid other materials because they do not allow good aeration. Try using a power that contains boric acid this will reduce the amount of sweat. Try to be barefoot as long as possible and dont keep your feet wet. Also you can try a drug called fluconazole talk to your doctor about doses and duration of therapy

Everyone has good advice, but here are a few more: Keep your shower extra clean and clean after you shower and after your husband showers so you don't keep spreading it to each other. Also, when you are in the shower, try peeing on your feet. Sounds gross, but it will help.
