well I got my tattoo's as a way to express myself, to be unique it was no-no thing to do, to most. And I could. It is a lifetime reminder of what was going on at the time it was done. There's no way self esteem was involved.

Some, sure. However, there isn't a direct correlation. I can easily think of people who have piercings and tattoo's, but are very self assured individuals who always wore what they wanted and bucked social restrictions. Their tattoos and piercing is no different than the clothing they choose to wear. Also, there are people I know who seem to get body art as a way of trying to become somebody, to create an identity of who they'd like to be and project this out into the world. Then there is a mixture of both in a lot of people, where it is partially an identity building thing self-esteem thing and part of their natural expression of who they are. I don't have any tattoos or piercings, and I have plenty of self-esteem problems. Probably the person who made the negative comment has their own insecurities. As why should it bother them if people getting ink on their skin makes them feel better about themselves? I look at it like cars, sometimes people pick a car because they just really like it personally. Sometimes people pick a car because they think it makes some statement about themselves. Sometimes there is a bit of both going on. Who cares, just let people be whatever and think the best of them we can, and not try and tear them down for their choices.

Wearing tattoos or getting piercing is an outward symbol of rebellion.
However, because ink and holes are so popular today, they have begun to serve another purpose: identifying oneself as part of a group.
This group can either be a specific group of friends or a larger group of people (people who want to send a message without saying a word.)
This is just like preppy girls who dress alike, guys that all wear sports jerseys, businessmen who all wear blue button down shirts with yellow ties.
It's simply an attempt to belong.

Some are very sexy...everything in moderation. A classy tattoo that is barely seen, or can only be glimpsed, except for that special someone can be very sexy to men. Also piercings are nice as long as the jewelry is not too over the top and your body isn't covered with them. Hey....any excuse for more jewelry works for me.

Men view women with tattoos and body piercings as, "someone who will try anything".
It's not really an attraction. It's more like a presumption about what kind of women she is: promiscuous.

I think it's addictive. I don't have the tattooes, but I have a tongue ring, nipple ring, and want a navel ring (waiting to firm up my stomach). I've heard tattooes are the same way. You get one and have to keep getting more. I see piercings as fun little ornaments

maybe they like it... i have 1 tattoo so far and i plan on getting more... i like the way that it looks... and i love piercings also... self esteem? i think not... that makes no sense... so guys that have them are ok but not women?

People get piercings and tattoo's for different reasons. I'm sure there are people who do it to look "cooler" or "sexier" but there are people who do it because they like it, not because of what others think of them.

Well, I don't know WHAT it is, but I wouldn't want to kiss anybody with a fishhook hanging out of her lip or nose or eyebrow or belly button or wherever else she is pierced
