Why does my cat always attack me?

I don't understand why my cat insists on hiding anywhere she can (in places that I can't see her), and once I pass by she launches herself up like 20 feet in the air and tries to bite off my head. Sometimes she does wall kicks to get more air. Regardless of the height of the jump, it always results in a vicious bite on various parts of my body along w/ clawing and scratching.

Because it's MY kitty, and she knows that you're not me, thus she sees you as an enemy because you're evil and she knows that if you get the chance you will steam her, eat her, and then make her fur into a purse. Consequently, kitty can't wait to see me because she loves me and not you and I told her to attack you. Amen.

ok, there are some good answers and advices here. try those, but don't be disappointed if they don't work. the problem might not be you, it might be your cat. my aunt's sister used to have an attacking cat. she never hurt the cat, always been a cat lover. the cat just hate her gut. the family tried everything. including some tricks are posted here. one day, the cat just went crazy and jump on my aunt's sister. scratch her face, and left 3,4 very deep scars. Her father was furious, so he bring the cat to the vet. the vet said(it was few years back, so they might have treatment not) this kind of behavior is like when a dog bites random people on the street or when a person go out and murder random people. The family finally decided to put the cat down. they were sad, but they really can't keep the cat. since the cat pretty much show aggression to everyone(including stranger. the other people are just lucky not to get deep scars), the cat is probably not good for adoption.

You've got to show that kitten who's boss.

Play with the cat, until the cat is so tired she wants to get away from you.

Get feathers on a stick and tease her, get a small ball and watch her play with it. Play hand wrestling games with her under a blanket (where you move your hand like a snake under the blanket) cats love this! And when she scratches or bites you too hard and cuts you shout "OUCH" loudly! So that she knows not to do that with her nails.

And when you see her chase her!

Whenever you see her, walk up behind her and surprise her to show the cat who's boss. Then pick her up snuggle and cuddle her.

Additionally, when the kitty is at least 8 months old, you can buy some catnip at the pet store, get a scratching box (they sell them there too) and sprinkle that on the box, so that she learns to do her nail sharpening on that cat box and not the furniture.

You can also get a sock (nylon stocking) double it over and fill it up with catnip, tie off both ends so none of the catnip escapes. That cat will get really really really mellow and chill out!

I agree with a few of the other answers. You need to establish some authority. Like I have 5 cats right now, but I've had as many 8. With each one (and their outside cats to) I make sure that they understand that I'm the boss, I'm the authority. My cats know that I might need to pick them up periodicly, weather to pet them, to put them in a cage so I can take them somewhere, or to for some reason separate them from the other cats.

But definitely, you need to figure out how to get your cat to understand that your in charge, and if you dont like something the cats doing you will discipline it. Yes, there a ways to discipline cats, dogs, or animals in general. Such that they understand something negative might come upon them if they continue their behavior. One example I can give is: of my five cats, there's is one impaticular that will periodically poop on the floor for no good reason. No good reason meaning the litter boxes were clean; but the cat for reasons that are not obvios to me decided to us the bathroom on the floor. Usually to let the cat know that poop on the floor is unacceptable is I might pick up the cat and put it's nose in the poop it put on the floor. And the other thing is I might pick up the cat and set it's butt in the litter box and tell it "poop." Then pick it up again and set it butt on the floor and tell it "No poop."

But there are plenty of methods to get your cat or pet to do what you want it to do; You just gotta find the method that works for you cat and/pets.

Your cat is a lion trapped in a domesticated cat's body. Poor thing. It must be terrible to go through that.

Oh yeah, I guess it's bad for you too.

Have fun with it. Paint black and white stripes on your body (and maybe wear some padding) and run around the house like a zebra. Your cat will love it.

Not good...has she had all her shots and been checked by a vet lately? We had a crazy cat that needed to be mellowed out by Prozac....kitty size doses, of course...also, she may not look at you as the "alpha cat"; you must establish that you are in control! Why don't you turn the tides on her and sneak up on her every once in a while....

because you don't let her out of the house. They need to release there energy some how. If you keep them inside all the time they will "look" for something to simulate them. If you let her out, they they are stimulated by the world. After all, they are AMIMALS.
