Formation of black holes and thermodynamics?
If nothing can escape from a black hole, I can't see how they can form in the first place. When the solar system was formed, the solar system would never have contracted into a sun and planets without radiating huge amounts of heat into empty space. If a black hole can't do this then that would seem to halt its contraction, or at least convert its contraction into an infinite asymtote such as 1/x goes to zero as x goes to infinity. Any thoughts?

firstly, black holes are not in our solar system, they are a long way away
secondly things do escape black holes, they shoot energy out the ends, they a really great big garbage disposal units. matter gets compacted so much it transforms into pure energy
3rd the are not holes, they are just really dense areas of intense gravity.
jupiter was almost a second sun in our own solar system. When a gas planet gains enough mass, the pressure at the centre gets so great, fusion occurs.
When the sun gains so much mass from things hitting it, it becomes a black hole. It gains so much mass, the gravity becomes enormous and it keeps getting bigger and bigger a it attracts more and more things. But once it reaches a certain mass, the matter in the middle gets destroyed and turned in to energy which is shot out is two huge jets, on the poles of the "hole"

Hi. Every object has gravity and a velocity required to escape from that gravity. On Earth that velocity is about 7 miles per second, on the Sun about 23 MPS. As you get further from the center of an object's gravity the velocity decreases and as you get closer it increases. With normal objects like the Sun and Earth you can only get so close to the center before you are on the surface. Squeeze the object to make it smaller and now you could get closer to the center and the escape velocity gets higher and higher. 100 MPS, 500 MPS, 1000 MPS, and so forth. Squeeze it enough and the velocity reaches the speed of light. All kinds of wierd things happen but the wierdest is that since even light can not travel fast enough to escape, it is trapped in orbit around the object. This applies to ANY object that gets crushed ehough. I've read that if you crushed Mt. Everest to the size of a proton it would become a tiny black hole. "Curiouser and curiouser..."

Black holes were originally very massive stars, so the energy release was done during its stellar life. Then all nuclear reactions inside ceased, releasing all excess energy as a supernova. Then the remnant starts to get smaller. As it does, the gravitational forces slowly get stronger, making the mass even smaller. The process continues until the mass itself approaches a point-particle existence, and a black hole is produced. (A black hole's radius is not the mass itself, but the boundary between the event horizon and space.)

not bad. youve done your homework i see. but the thing about black holes is that they are just so high in gravity that nothing including light can excape up until a certain point. this would not hault the expansion of the universe because much of the universe extends far beyond the point of no return. and if anything extends beyond this point than the universe can continue to expand. and black holes are created by a sudden collapse of a large amount of matter into a small area. so if a sun colapsed into a black hole, it would still have the same amount of gravity, but it would all be coming into a small area, so anything that comes close enough, is traped.

Black holes don't form until something gains too much mass (and hence, gravity) to be able to sustain it's original form. Anything, in space, that's big enough and weighs enough, will become a black hole.

Consider, maybe there was never a beginning and there will be no end. Energy and matter over infinite time gives rise to everything eternally arising out of a matrix of chaos.

Actually, light DOES escape black holes. There was an article on it last summer I believe. Mr. Hawking lost his bet.

no longer plenty. we've a ton of catholics in my family individuals, my father is atheist and my mom is baptist. ME and my sister went the pagan direction. does not appear as if with all the DNA floating around that we've been vulnerable in any respect.

Haven't you heard? Jesus made black holes because he can do anything.
