Why do I talk in my sleep so much?

I talk in my sleep almost every night (I have been told so). When I am told what I have said, it never makes any sense and it doesn't relate to any dreams I can remember. Often I cry or yell like I am being attacked. Why do I do this? How can I just chill out and sleep like a normal person??

Update:

Thanks everyone, I can't choose a best answer, these are all great. I will certainly try everyone's suggestions ^_^

A little more info, I will add that sometimes I will bolt up out of bed and run across the room because I think >something< is trying to get me. I've done this maybe 5 times in the passed 3 months... But I usally don't sleep walk.

As for stress... I'm not really sure, I don't think I'm stressed, but then again I don't really know what to look for.

If the talking is not waking you, so you talk. No big deal. If you wake yourself frequently, you'll be tired during the day. In my experience, dreams normally do not make sense, though I have been told there is significance to them. Talking and even crying or yelling are not uncommon. Keep a composition book by your bed and start to write down what you remember from you dream experiences as soon as you awake. You may get notes enough to use as the basis for an interesting novel.

I suggest you try doing yoga. It really helps relaxing your mind and relieves stress. There are books to practice yoga on your own, or you can attend classes. I do yoga myself and I totally love it. Hope I helped.
