what does everyone think about the firing of Smith, and the hiring the new GM for the Islanders Garth Snow?
lots of people take years to get a GM job and Smith has done it for years and was hired by the Islanders and 6 weeks later he got fired by team owner Wang. Garth Snow said in an interview that when he talk to Wang he said as a child he always wanted to be a GM, well he got his wish. He still has 2 years left on his contract and he retired as a player and Wang hired him right away as new GM of the Islanders. to me i think its a big mistake he noes his hockey but to become a GM you need to no the little things that hockey players dont understand.
BAD MOVE ON WANG OWNER OF THE NY ISLANDERS.

Like many sports executives or owners, Wang is proof that just because someone is in charge does not mean that they know what they are doing. I'm certainly no Islanders fan, but I don't like to see things like this happen. It's ludicrous. Neil Smith is highly qualified but I can understand that he was tossed over differences of opinion. But Snow going from the ice to the GM spot means that he will be learning on the job and might well make a few mistakes. It's not fair to the team or it's fans.

I was glad they fired Smith and I am a life long Isles fan..Smith has links to the Rangers, and would destroy the team just like mononey did in the 90s..and as far as the circus in NY..if I look I think that the Islanders still have more cups then either teh dDevils or the Rangers..and one good year by the Rangers doesnt erase that they have finished behind the Isles the 3 years before that.
I have to say the whole league has been pretty lame as far as signings..the Islanders still have some talent in Bridgeport..they have been very good the last few seasons...they should still look to sgn one more defenseman..and try to trade yashin. the Islanders will barely make the playoffs this year but they will make it b/c I feel that Dipietro is ready to show some beter chioces

Very bad move on Wang's part. I am not sure if Smith was the answer to the Islanders problems but I'm pretty sure that Garth Snow won't be either.

I thought the Bruins were in tough shape, but the Islander's proved that wrong again. They (like the Bruin's) need a new owner. You can only band-aid it for so long. Milbury resigned half way through the season. They were the first ones to be looking for a GM and sat on their hands. Its really bad. That team was great in the early 80's, but now is worse than most of the expansion teams. It doesn't help them to sell tickets certainly and they play in probably the worst building in the league. They need a direction. Maybe Snow can give it to them, but it would be a miracle if he did. I hope for the sake of hockey in the island that he does alright, but you need to give him a couple of seasons for it to pan out. His hiring came too late this season to make much of an impact.

I think Mike Milbury had a hand in this. He still has a front office job with the team. Snow will have no idea what he's doing and will end up going to Milbury for help, and he will become Milbury's puppet.

Firstly, why do you ask these questions and then answer them? That defeats the whole purpose of this website.
As far as your question goes...The Islanders are the biggest circus in New York. Hopefully Nolan doesn't start sleeping with the players wifes like he did in Buffalo.

it was a bad move. snow doesn't have any experience. they should have gone for someone with more expeirence rather than name their backup goalie GM. I don't know why they still have milbury in their organization they should get rid of him too. it will be an interesting season for the islanders.

I think it is a bad move.I mean Garth Snow doesn't have a lot of GM experience.I don't think they will make the playoffs this year.

I think it is so funny!
I hate the Isles and i think this will make their team even more of a laugh and joke to the NHL...
Rangers are better
Potvin sucks since 1979 and don't forget it!

wongs grasp plan is that lighthouse project which will never paintings. he desires to truly harm the islanders, lead them to fold/be moved so he could make homes and procuring department shops.
