Are you a typical only/eldest/middle/youngest child?
With a bit of angst going on in my family recently, I've become more interested in the effects of birth order. I guess I'm a typical youngest / only child, and I can see how my older brothers are typical eldest and middle children respectively.
Interested to hear if you and/or your siblings also conform with the expectations. (For a bit of background, see http://www.childdevelopmentinfo.com/development/bi...

Hiya, I can relate to this even though I'm the second oldest. My older brother was always pushed into doing everything to get the best out of life, When he left school, although he didn't go onto further education he was encouraged to do well in his job, learn to drive etc etc etc.. My younger brother, had a very similar upbringing and my baby sister (now 18) always got everything, every excuse was made under the sun to cover up all the wrong doings - which some of the things she's done in both her childhood and teenage years are pretty awful but for reasons I can't understand she IS the golden child. Me, on the other hand being the only girl between two boys (pre my sisters birth) was looked upon as the girl who would only ever have children and be unemployed for the rest of her life - My parents didn't encourage me to do well at school, refused to let me go to college and universisty (which was my dream) basicaly didn't take an interest in anything to do with me, as long as I was helping around the house. Once my sister was born I became the babysitter in such a way that I was kept off school to look after them, I even had to lie to social workers as to why I was missing so much school and yet deep down, all I ever wanted was to go to school.
Anyway - the story ends.. I'm now in my 30's, yes I have children - as expected, but I have worked my socks off to get to where I am now. I teach children who have special educational needs and I have to admit it's been difficult managing family and college to gain the qualifications I needed.
I'm still 'the black sheep' of the family - and I guess the reality is, I just don't fit in! and yet when my sister is causing mass destruction and putting herself in dangerous situations, guess who gets the phone call to sort it all out?!!
I think we just have to except that there's a certain pecking order within a family.

I'm the second of 4, but I'm more like an oldest child. My brother kind of dropped the ball with being firstborn.

gorgeous call. Olivia is slightly over-consumer-friendly inspite of the incontrovertible fact that. Dorothy is so gorgeous and slightly different. I stay in England and that team could be: Alfie Harry Jack Ruby Olivia Emily i admire all the above ladies names (too consumer-friendly for me inspite of the incontrovertible fact that) however the lads names are in basic terms too nicknamey for my tastes.
