whats a decent rpg to buy for ps2 or pc?

Personally, I love Final Fantasy XI. Unlike World of Warcraft, it's centered around teamwork and has little PvP (player vs. player). Unfortunately, it's very time-consuming. I've been playing it for almost 3 years now (sometimes once a month, sometimes 18 hours a day) and still have tons I want to accomplish in the game.

World of Warcraft is also really good, but the emphasis on PvP wasn't for me. On top of all that, it seemed like you could gain levels far too rapidly and easily. I've dropped the game, but only because I didn't want to pay for 2 online game subscriptions. I do miss that game, though.

Sometimes, when I just want to play a fun game solo (with some social interaction) or with just 1 or 2 friends, I miss WoW. Other times, I enjoy the FFXI challenge of working with 6 people (occasionally from other countries) to gain levels and complete quests/missions.

All-in-all, it depends on what you're looking for. If you like teamwork and don't care about PvP, go with FFXI. If you like PvP more, go with WoW. Both games take up a lot of time and can become very addictive. However, I think it's possible to get a lot more enjoyment out of WoW if you'll only be playing occasionally. FFXI is much more time-intensive if you're goal is to experience everything and max out your character.

Sorry, but I can't comment on any other online RPG games due to a lack of experience.

If you're talking RPG in general, I love the entire Final Fantasy series. In my opinion, you can't go wrong there. If you like D&D-style game play, IceWind Dale and Baldur's Gate were excellent for the PC.

Yes, FFXI and WoW are entirely online. And yes, you have to pay a monthly fee. But honestly, it's not that bad.

Depends on what you are looking for. On the less violent side but still VERY fun are Dragon Warrior 8. My husband is on his 110th hour, at least, and game play is still fun. Definatly get the guide for this game, it is much more fun. I'm not sure how you'd play the game without it, you'd miss SOOOO much! I usually am the guide and read the book while he plays. It is fun for the whole family.

Other choices are Kingdom Hearts (1 or 2, but 1 is better), Champions of Norrath or it's sequel Champions - Return to Arms (again the first one is better). Also, Kya Dark Lineage was a fun game - I'm not sure if this is really an rpg - and although it was a little buggy, it was as fun as Dragon Warrior 8.

If you like strategy, there's an older game for PS2 called Gladius by LucasArts. You can probably get it for $5 or $10 now. It's mostly arena combat with gladiator-style weapons, but there's a ton of weapons to buy, different character classes, animals, and mythological creatures. I'm not 100% sure myself as I don't really play too many RPGs, but I do know my son and my partner are completely addicted to a game called 'Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion', it's set in Caesars era (ish), there's a lot of quests and lots of enemys, weapons, magic, housese to buy and apparently it's better than any of the other 'Elder Scrolls' games. (I think it's only available on PC)

If you can get it from Chips & Bits and XP will run it, then Planescape: Torment is arguably the best story-driven RPG ever made.

Star Ocean: Til the End of Time

$20 three difficulties, lots of unlocks/hidden dungeons, real time combat

FFX is alright in the beginning but slowly gets too easy unless you don't use the sphere grid

Shadow Hearts if you can find it, kind of short but enjoyable nonetheless

Decent or Life consuming? World of Warcraft for LIfe consuming, I don't know any decent RPG's, I am to busy PLaying Warcraft.

probably world of warcraft but you have to pay to play. there is a game that is similiar called guild wars that you don't have to pay for. I'm waiting for the Lord of the Rings RPG to come out.

The Elder Scrolls : Oblivion.......best game ever bit needs a good PC with decent Ram at least 1Gb but it works with 512mb on low quality....good luck :)

Magna Carta for the PS2. Its been dicontinued but its a great game if you can find it
