Will you regret your tatoos?

I see so many young people with tatts in conspicuous places nowadays ( arms, legs, and such), and I was just wondering- do you think you will regret getting them down the road?

    A few rules of tattoos...

First rule: Never ever get someones name or initials tattoed anywhere on your body no matter how much you love them. (kids names included) Never get the portrait tattoos of any person you think is cool , great, the best in the world or the love of your life.

Second rule: Research the guy or girl doing your tattoo. Make an appointment with them. Give them some ideas of what you want this ARTWORK on your body for the rest of your life. Let them know this isn't a whim and something you have thought about. That will make a great impression with the artist and encorage him or her to do their best work.....you are proud of the tattoo they are proud of their work. Go in because all the girls are getting one and you are going to get a half-*ssed job.

I worked at a tattoo parlor for a few years. Most of the coverups and re-works that came in were: Names of ex's, portraits of kids that started to sag or run a bit (portraits don't seem to last, do you want to see a melted version of you kids face?) Then there were the impromptu tattoos....poor work, blurry lines, and work that looked like it had been done by a drunken monkey.

If you research what you want, talk to the tattoo artist and make sure it doesn't involve your undying loves name or initials there is less chance you'll regret it.

**note** Despite what your drunken buddies say the skull / snake / flaming sword / rose combo is a terrible tattoo. You'll regret that one without a doubt! Add any barbed wire to that combo and you may as well chop off the limb you put it on. ; )

Source(s): I've a few well chosen tattoos in very obvious places, will never regret them and I can still go to PTA meetings without freaking anyone out.

my tattoo wasn't spur of the moment thing, i really thought about it. like what i wanted and where i wanted it to be. i looked for years to find the perfect tattoo for me. when i went to get it done, i almost backed out from getting it, but my mom had already put the money down on it, so i got it, and i'm so glad i did. i would regret it if i hadn't gotten it.

I was thinking about getting a tattoo, then just yesterday I figured I'd regret it so I don't think I'm going to get one anymore.

I don't have any but gave it careful thought. I thought about how awful a dolphin might look if I put on weight or once I became wrinkled. I thought about my grandkids seeing my fairy on my butt during my time of not being able to take care of myself. "OOOOHHH! Grandma has a fairy on her butt!"

These images were enough for me to reconsider.
