Tell me something..?
I worked as a waitress for many years and I want to know why people act like critics and spoiled brats when they eat out. They let their kids run all over the place and cry and cry if the restaurant doesnt have exactly what they want. If you want fish, dont eat at a Mexican place. If you want a hamburger, stay away from the chinese buffet. Why do people regress into idiots when they eat out? I think maybe they are trying to get out of tipping. Do you realize waitpeople only make 2.13 an hour and the taxes on what the government says their tips are takes that away and they live and support their families on their tips? Whats your take on this?

Well, I really do agree with you. I have a mom and pop restaurant and what you describe is more common than not.
Unfortunately, it is the nature of the business..there really are all types of people and some are clueless! But it is a service business and you just have to smile (most of the time) and keep going.
Most of the time I don't think they are trying to get out of tipping. Isn't teh case that so many people are geberally just unhappy. So the challenge of the restaurant is to help them leave in a better mood.
Regardong tipping..the only answer for this is to require everyone to wait tables for 2 eight hour shifts...they would never stiff you again!

Well I think somewhere down the line...some employer took the "the customer is always right" thing a little too far. Basically, people act like idiots and raise hell when they don't get exactly what they want because they KNOW they can complain about it and there's nothing you can do about it to fight back. I went to Logan's the other night and we were waiting for a table and I witnessed a B*TCHY woman go up to the hostess and be REALLY ugly and rude to her and say "We've (her family of three other people) have been waiting ___ amount of time for a table. Why haven't we been seated when there are all these empty tables?!" and the hostess tried explaining to her that they were a party of four and all the empty tables would only comfortably fit two. And the woman very rudely said "I wanna see the manager!" and of course, the manager apologized for something that he shouldn't have apologized for and I don't know if she got something for free or not. But my point is that people know they can rant and rave and get away with it.
But my mom was a waitress for over 20 years so I know what you mean about waitresses living off of tips. Think about it...most people only leave a few dollars. I don't think that's sufficient for the services rendered.

Thank you! Especially for the part about people letting their children run around the restaurant like they are there by themselves and their parents are ignoring them. I don't know why people have to be so rude when they eat out. Maybe those people Should just STAY HOME and let everyone else enjoy their meal!

you;re right... I am usually VERY tolerant, unless I get a stupid waiter/tress... and they have to be VERY unhelpful, and I will NOT tip.. otherwise, I am very generous on tips... I think people LOVE power tripping, and this is anywhere, not only about food. I work in Customer Service and I get a bunch of jerks everyday, and some other people are very nce

i simply cannot stand it when people do the things you mentioned. i think they want to create a scene so everyone can feel sorry for them and thing that the waiter/waitress is the 'bad guy'. they are merely attention seekers that will do the dumbest things to get some pity.

We eat out quite often and see it all the time. People need to bring their manners with them and teach their children a few also...
