What is the resonator on my stock intake?

The resonator is the plastic piece that comes from the air filter housing, and goes to the firewall, or, radiator support.

It has a baffle in it to absorb the throttle noise under hard acceleration.

There isn't a resonator on an intake. Most likely your talking about that black box with weird looking bends and such. They do absolutely nothing...Heard some say as to make the intake sound quiet. But you can toss that. If its what I think your talking about. Good luck.

Keeps the noise level down under the hood. There's a resonator on the exhaust too, just before the muffler.

1. It's probably there to help the airflow to the intake of the engine.

2. As on some small engines used in ultralight aircraft, it could possibly be there as a "silencer". A wide open intake can be very, very loud.

It acts kinda like an expansion chamber to keep noise levels down under acceleration.
