Christian Americans - Would you like to see the US become a theocracy?

I would say "NO" despite my own Christian identity, because I know from studying history (church history as well) that mixing church and state serves only to bring about pain and corruption. (Take a look at the Middle East!) I would not want to see my religion taking a turn for the worse. Secular government mingled with religiously-based morals seems to be serving us well. Let's keep it at that.

Government should be separate from religion. Government should not dictate what religion people believe. A "Christian" theocracy would actually be a contradiction. It is not possible to practice true Christian principles and be a government that is a theocracy. How would you handle people of other faiths? Christian principles say treat them with love and kindness and teach them about Jesus. A government of a theocracy on the other hand would require everyone be a Christian or face some sort of penalty.

There has never in history been a successful Christian Theocracy. Even the Roman Empire was not a Christian Theocracy although they claimed to be. Murder in the name of Christ has absolutely nothing Christian about it. It was in reality an empire controlled by Satin and is a prime example of where Jesus warns about false teachings.

Personally I think it would be great if we had a country of all "real" Christians. I am talking about the people and not the government. As it is in America we have 80% claim to be Christians but less than 5% really are.

Every person has a right to their own beliefs. I obviously do not agree with some people’s beliefs but then they do not agree with me either. We have no right as a Christian, or anyone of any faith for that matter, to force our beliefs.

I have been more successful witnessing to more people and watching more people accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior by practicing good Christian principles including NOT forcing them to believe what I believe and NOT condemning them for their beliefs.

That would be a very bad idea.

First off, there would be a great debate over which version of Christianity would be used in this theocracy. Fundamentalist Christianity? Liberal Christianity? Catholicism? Mormonism? As a Catholic, I'd shudder at the idea of a Fundamentalist government, and in turn, they wouldn't care for the idea of a government run entirely by Catholic officials. Should the Pentecostals be in charge? Baptists? Christian Scientists? Episcopalians?

There are just too many issues here for the idea to be workable. So as a Christian, I vote for the separation of church and state.

I am a Christian and I absolutely would not want to see a theocracy. The reason is simply because I disagree with many who claim to be Christians and it would turn into a power grab that could be most unpleasant. I could see the same problems as we see with Islamic theocracies.

It usa became a Christian Theocracy, it may crumple with innumerable civil wars, insurgenies and coups because of the fact the fairly some denominations tried to wrest administration from one yet another.

Should a Christian-based social, political and religious order be the people's government? Have we completely forgotten the Inquisition and when the "Church" had power over civil governments? Have we forgotten the Crusades? Have we forgotten why our forefathers immigrated to this country to begin with? Well, I, for one, have not forgotten and I advise very strongly that we should retain separation of church and state. For the things of the world, give tribute to the world. But for the things of the spirit, give tribute where it is due, and that is to God and to Him only.

Instead of trying to reform the world, I suggest it would be better if we turned our faces away from this world "beneath" and turned them instead toward the world "above" where there is Life instead of death.

I would like for kids to be able to pray in school again, but that wouldn't necessarily be christian, it could be jewish or muslim too, the word God is not for only one group. The atheists could meditate or something, no harm. Other than a few situations, being able to pray and getting rid of abortion, no way. It would probably be run by fundies, and no offense, but that would end up a nightmare. Would be as bad as islamic run mid-east countries. No thanks. The only good that would come of it is that the atheists would stop filing their complaints about someone putting up a cross to signify where their loved one died, cause that apparently really "offends" atheists. But that's not enough of a reason, it's just annoying that they cause so much pain to families that are hurting, which they could care less about. Sorry, its not about that, just one of my pet peeves, people who want attention so badly they pretend to be "offended" by something as simple as a memorial cross, regardless of the pain they cause others.

Nope, I'm a born-again atheist. Somehow I don't think the Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, or Jews would be very happy about it either.

All the world one day will be under the rule of Jesus Christ. It's called the Millennial Reign.

All depends on whos ruling/ If it is a Muslims extremist or a Christian Extremist ; No!! Hitler was a christian.

If it is by Jesus Christ then we would all welcome it. Until he comes I would like seperation of Church and state.
