Acne is an inflammatory skin disorder characterized by pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. To some degree, it affects about 80 percent of all Americans between the ages of twelve and forty-four. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne has become the most commonly treated skin abnormality. Perhaps modem lifestyles contribute to this change in statistics. For those that suffer from acne, it is not merely a cosmetic problem. The consequences include emotional stress that can have a strong impact on one's self-esteem.

Acne often arises at puberty, when the body dramatically increases its production of androgens (male sex hormones). These hormones stimulate the production of keratin (a type of protein) and sebum (an oily skin lubricant). If sebum is secreted faster than it can move through die pores, a blemish arises. The excess oil makes the pores sticky, allowing bacteria to become trapped inside. Blackheads form when sebum combines with skin pigments and plugs the pores. If scales below the surface of the skin become filled with sebum, whiteheads appear. In severe cases, whiteheads build up, spread under the skin, and rupture, which eventually spreads the inflammation. Although proper skin care is important in the treatment of acne, acne is not caused by uncleanliness, but is m9re likely to be a result of overactive oil glands.

    Considerations and prevention tips

    * Avoid wearing makeup. If you feel you must use cosmetics, use only natural, water-based products. Do not use any oil-based formulas, and avoid any products containing harsh chemicals, dyes, or oils. Wash and dip makeup applicator brushes and sponges in alcohol after each use to avoid contamination.

    * If you are not allergic to dairy products, eat plenty of soured products, such as low-fat yogurt, to maintain healthy intestinal flora.

    * Do not squeeze the spots. To do so is to risk increasing the inflammation by causing breaks in the skin in which harmful bacteria can lodge. Do not touch the affected area unless your hands have been thoroughly cleaned.

    * As much as possible, avoid stress. Stress can promote hormonal changes and cause flare-ups. Many dermatologists also recommend fifteen minutes of sunshine each day, regular exercise, and sufficient sleep for people with acne.

    * Acne is a message that something may be wrong with your body chemistry, diet, and/ or skin care routine. Proper diet, nutritional supplements, and finding the right skin care products may be all that is needed to correct the problem.

    * Niacinamide is a major nutrient in the repair of skin condition because it aids circulation. This increases supply of fresh, healthy blood to the surface of the! which supplies the skin with blood and nutrients.

    * Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), a byproduct of wood processing, can be applied to acne lesions to reduce inflammation and promote healing. If used regularly, it may also minimize scarring from severe cystic acne.

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

    Holistic Acne Treatment Guide?

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.

Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

    Try limiting your dairy consumption.

    A 2005 Harvard study found a connection:

    "Acne Associated with Dairy Intake…

A new Harvard study links dairy products to adolescent acne. A group of 47,000 women from the Nurses’ Health Study was asked to provide information about several aspects of their diet during high school as well as any incidence of physician-diagnosed severe teenage acne.

Researchers noted a positive association with total milk and skim milk consumption, along with instant breakfast drinks, sherbet, cottage cheese, and cream cheese.

No association was found with several other foods often thought to affect acne, including soda, french fries, chocolate candy, and pizza. The scientists postulate that hormones and bioactive ingredients found in milk may be responsible."

Hi, You might ask your Mom to check out a product called Clear Advantage from a company called Arbonne. It is a cleanser line for acne of any age and if your whole family has a problem with it everyone could use this product. I have a girlfriend who is 30 and she has tried everything out there and this product worked where nothing else did. Your Mom can go to http://www.wonderful.myarbonne.com/ and find it in their online catalog. Good luck to you.

I have suffered acne so much as many of you have had.

I had tried everything such as pills, crème, lotion, those are made by brand name companies, but I was so stressed because they didnt work.

One day, I knew aloe is good to treating acne, and one of my Korean friends told me of a product called Aloe Enne from Namyang Aloe.

I tried it several weeks, and I am so pleased about the result.

After cleaning up my face, I put it on my face, and it feels like my skin gets much moist and healthier. I think aloe really works.

So I hope you have the good skin too.
