My pc is dead.....can somebody please help?

Last week we were having a thunderstorm here. The electricity went off suddenly, and now my pc won't come back on. The monitor still worked, but I can't get the pc to work. Can somebody please tell me what I need to do to repair it? I'm on an old dinosaur that I've had stored for AGES.

If you intend to repair it, you will want to start swapping parts with one that is good.

I would suspect the power supply, the modem and other parts first. You can just unplug the modem, until things come alive.

But you can easily be fooled. The CMOS RAM might have lost it's info, so you might reset that first. Just by resetting it, your computer might come alive. Just set the time and date, and you are back in business.

Well for one thing you probably need a new power-supply at the very least. Take it to your local PC repair place and tell them what happened. They'll get it working again if it's even possible. After you get it fix you might want to think about using a surge protector in the future.

well try flipping the switch off and then on in the back of your computer. make sur the outlet works that it is pluged in and make sure the cord leading to the outlet is plugged in the computer all the way. if still nothing you might want to get another computer if it is a very old computer. if it is a newer model, consider going to a computer shop and having someone to take a look at it.

    okay... hmm...

you should try to get a repairman... go to them... don't have them come to you 'cause it will cost more...

electricity surges may also shock viruses in your computer to shut down, reload, shut down.

it might also be a good idea to take out all the plugs in your computer, wait an hour or a day or so and then plug everything back in, 'cause all you might of had to do was restart EVERYTHING.

my best advice is to just go to a computer store and ask for help, or call you computer's brand name question hotline thing to have them step you through reprocessing.

    hope this helps. =)

Lightning could have run in on your pc and fried your modem and/or motherboard. You will have to take it to your local guru or computer repair shop to have them fix it if you aren't able to replace these things yourself.

ok first of all u have to inspect EVERY SINGLE PART OF UR PC, open it up and look for the ones that are fried and replace it, check every part of it and chances are it would work, also dont forget to clean dusts n such, u might want to check the cooling fan to see if its dirty

I suggest u to buy Ups to ur system... Previously i had also faced the same problem and i had to repay a lot... i.e i had to replace SMPS, PROCESSOR and HARDDISK.

We cannot help u, without seeing ur system......... It all depends upon the resistance of ur system...
