Sugar causes diabetes?

I like drinking sweet tea and coffee, and I have heard people say drinking too much sugar can lead to diabetes. Yet, some other people say that diabetes are caused by our bad internal organ (liver, pancreas, kidney, or something) and not by the amount of sugar we consume. Please throw me some light.

Type I diabetes is caused by the destruction of the islet cells of the pancress. Its an auto immune reaction, and the trigger is not know. However, sugar IS NOT one of the triggers people are looking at.

Type II diabetes is more the effect of diet. Its an insulin resistance, and can be treated with diet and excersize. If you are obese, or have a family history of type II diabetes you are more at risk. If you excersize reguarly, eat a balanced diet (and yes, sweet tea and coffee can be part of a balanced diet... try Stash licouious tea, it doesn't even need sugar!) and take care of yourself, then you should be fine.

Sugar does not cause diabetes. Excess sugar in the blood stream, the major indicator of diabetes, occurs when the Isles of Langerhans in the pancreas fail to produce enough of the hormone insulin which regulates the burning of sugar for energy.

Eating sugar is not a risk factor for diabetes. It can however; lead to obesity and that is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes. If someone does get diabetes there is no cure. With type 2 it sometimes can be controlled with diet and exercise but it will not be cured.

There are two types of diabetes. One is where the immune system attacks the pancreas (type I). There is not a lot you can do about this type. The other is usually related to how obese a person is (type II). You still have to have the predisposition for it, but losing weight will cure it. Too much sugar can make you obese, so it's possible. But there isn't a causation.

No, carbohydrates are bad for diabetics. They are what breaks down into sugar and the pancreas and liver does not function well if there are too much carbs. Also obesity is a factor also.
