Should there be a system to limit all the fake questions and answers?
Most of the answers here are totally unhelpful. I think everone answering should lose 1 point for each thumbs-down they get for their answer as a punishment for being useless.
What do you think would be a deterrant to lame answers?

Not only the answers..but also the questions are so inane they dont deserve the bandwidth..
This forum..as all forums..should be moderated..but yahoo isnt going to do that. It would take too many people..and to give Moderators any power would simply create the same internet monster weve always seen online..bullies that dont promote anything more then their limited educations and tiresome egos..
The best we can hope for is to jump down the throats of those that are wasting space and try to be helpful to those that need it...its also not alsways about the Riddles of the Universe....is it? Sometimes its just fluff too..and we have to be respectful of that.

Losing points for each thumbs down would give too much power to the common idiot who would easily like to give EVERYONE a thumbs down.
For all the dumb answers, you have to just ignore it. Fake question/answers are as helpful as one-sided questions/answers.
Be the bigger person and don't let the internet get to you.

No - this is one of the last venues of free speech (although I'm sure Big Brother is watching). For those that do it - they just look like insecure smart a***s. That should be punishment enough - having their insecurities and idiocy broadcast over the world.
Why does it always have to be about a reward or winning?

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. 1 point off for each thumbs-down. With maybe a max of negative 5 for any one answer.
People who just answer with "Thanks for the two points", will get some quick negatives!

that might work. i don't know how well the thumbs down system actually functions, though (i'm pretty dure the thumbs up doesn't do anything, and i KNOW nobody reads the violations - i don't care what anyone says, otherwise, on THAT subject). certainly, i wish the stupid questions and answers would go away.
